Lana Condor is officially returning as Lara Jean in ‘XO, Kitty’ Season 3 and it’s not just a quick cameo
If you thought the ‘To All the Boys’ chapter had closed for good, think again. A familiar face from that wildly popular rom-com world is heading back to the screen, and this time she’s stepping into the spin-off territory of ‘XO, Kitty’. That means fans of the Covey sisters might want to sit down for a second. Because yes, the reunion is happening. Lana Condor, the actor who charmed audiences as high-school romantic dreamer Lara Jean Covey in the ‘To All the Boys I've Loved Before’ film series, is joining the upcoming third season of the Netflix show focused on Lara Jean’s younger sister. The series, which follows Kitty Song Covey’s adventures abroad, already carries the same sweet, chaotic, occasionally awkward family DNA. Now it’s bringing the big sister back into the picture.
And fans didn’t have to wait long to spot the moment. Netflix teased the news with a playful announcement clip that had viewers doing a double take. In the short video, Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee) casually asks, “Covey?” Then, two heads turn at the same time. Both respond instantly with the same word: “Yes.” That’s because sitting side by side are Lara Jean and Kitty. Both Coveys. Also, the returning big sister isn’t just making a quick hello either. Condor will appear in multiple episodes of the new season, as per Tudum by Netflix. For Condor, the opportunity to return to the franchise clearly means a lot. Speaking about the experience, she shared how happy she was to reunite with Anna Cathcart, who leads the series as Kitty.
According to Condor, “It’s such a joy to be able to come back and see Anna. I think she did an amazing job creating the ‘XO, Kitty’ world. It’s such a dream to be able to work with her again. I feel really excited and happy and honored I get to be back.” While the original films centered on Lara Jean’s complicated love life and her letters-turned-romantic-disasters, ‘XO, Kitty’ follows the youngest Covey sister across the globe. Kitty leaves home and enrolls at the Korean Independent School of Seoul, often shortened to KISS, hoping to learn more about her late mother’s past while also playing matchmaker for her friends. Naturally, things rarely go according to plan.
Furthermore, the Covey family popping into the spin-off isn’t entirely new either. Earlier seasons already featured appearances from other characters tied to the film trilogy. Noah Centineo returned as Lara Jean’s boyfriend Peter Kavinsky during a previous season. Season 2 also welcomed back Janel Parrish as the eldest Covey sibling Margot Covey. Meanwhile, Season 1 included appearances from Kitty’s parents, played by John Corbett and Sarayu Blue. So bringing Lara Jean into the mix? Honestly, it was only a matter of time. The teaser clip also carried another small piece of news tucked into its caption: the full trailer for the upcoming season is expected to arrive on March 9. Moreover, Season 3 of ‘XO, Kitty’ is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on April 2.
