Netflix drops exciting update on 'Running Point' Season 2 and here's when it premieres
Kate Hudson and her LA Waves team are heading back to the basketball court for another shot at success, as 'Running Point' returns for Season 2 on April 23. Co-created by Mindy Kaling, Elaine Ko, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, the series debuted on Netflix on February 27 last year to rave reviews and was renewed for a second season a week later, on March 6. The show is executive produced by Kaling, Barinholtz, Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss, Linda Rambis, Michael Weaver, James Ponsoldt, Hudson, and Stassen, who also serves as the showrunner.
After the renewal news, Kaling shared her excitement in a conversation with Tudum, “We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a Season 2 of 'Running Point' to the fans of the show. We still cannot believe the response from audiences — thank you to everyone who has watched! Thank you to our partners at Netflix, Warner Brothers, our star who brought this show to life, Kate Hudson, and, of course, executive producers Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, without whom there would be no 'Running Point.”
As per the official premise of the sports drama series,' "Isla Gordon, a reformed party girl, gets the shot of a lifetime to prove herself as she is left in charge of her family's pro basketball team, but she soon learns that running a basketball team comes with its own set of problems and surprises both on and off the court." Isla begins Season 1 as the reluctant president of the Los Angeles Waves basketball team. After her brothers fail to come to her rescue, she turns to her best friend and chief of staff, Ali Lee, for help navigating the cut-throat, male-dominated world of basketball.
She surprises everyone and turns the team's fortunes around, as the LA Waves register back-to-back wins for the first time in years. However, the team loses the championship game in the finale, dampening everyone's spirits. Meanwhile, Isla's love life takes a plunge as her fiancé, Lev, ends their long-term engagement while she finds herself drawn to the team's head coach, Jay Brown.
Kate Hudson reprises her role as Isla Gordon, alongside Brenda Song as Ali Lee, Scott MacArthur as Ness, Drew Tarver as Sandy, Chet Hanks as Travis Bugg, Toby Sandeman as Marcus Winfield, and Fabrizio Guido as Jackie. Moreover, Justin Theroux, who plays Cam Gordon, and Uche Agada, who plays Dyson Gibbs, are promoted to series regulars in the upcoming season. Max Greenfield, Rob Huebel, Roberto Sanchez, Jay Ellis, Scott Evans, Marissa Reyes, Justin Hurtt-Dunkley, and Jon Glaser return as recurring guest stars.
The all-star roster for Season 2 also includes new players like Ken Marino as Al Fleischman, Jake Picking as Tommy White, Richa Moorjani as Aruna, Blake Anderson as Leroy, Aliyah Turner as Zoé Debay, Duby Maduegbunam as Benson, and Tommy Dewey as the general manager of the Toronto Trappers, Magnus. All episodes of 'Running Point' Season 1 are available to stream on Netflix.
