'Extraction' is coming back with a third installment, and fans can't keep calm. Chris Hemsworth is set to reprise his role as Tyler Rake, according to Deadline, almost three years after he was last seen playing the character in the franchise. Sam Hargrave will don the director's hat again, while David Weil pens the script. Along with Hemsworth, Idris Elba, and Golshifteh Farahani will also return to reprise their roles from the previous movies. If everything goes as planned, the movie will start production in the coming summer. The announcement about the third installment is not a surprise, because the previous two movies received glowing reviews and featured on Netflix’s Most Popular English Films list.

Despite most of the gang returning, 'Extraction 3' will feature one major difference. Unlike the previous two installments, this movie will not be penned by Joe Russo. However, he will continue to be part of the venture as a producer through his company AGBO, which he co-leads with Anthony Russo. “It’s incredibly exciting to continue our partnership with Netflix as we further expand the Extraction universe,” Angela Russo-Otstot, Chief Creative Officer at AGBO, said to Tudum by Netflix. “It is also our privilege to continue the creative collaboration with Sam Hargrave, Chris Hemsworth, and this outstanding team who have built a stellar action franchise that has proven itself a true standout for audiences around the globe.”

Since the release of 'Extraction 2' in 2023, Hargrave has been dropping hints that a third installment is in the works. He maintained that for the third installment to be possible, the schedules of its A-list stars needed to align. As per Deadline, the project got the green light after Hemsworth chose to move forward with it this summer. The actor apparently got excited after reading the current script attached to 'Extraction 3.' The team also agreed to film during the summer so that Hemsworth can continue working on 'Kockroach,' which is set to go on floors in April 2026. Hemsworth will also be attached as a producer, along with Benjamin Grayson, through his company Wild State.

Netflix has kept the plot details regarding the third installment under wraps. However, judging by the previous two outings, the audience can expect Tyler Rake to wreak havoc across the world as he and his team undertake another Extraction mission. While no release date has been announced yet, Netflix and AGBO have already started work on a spin-off led by Omar Sy and a South Korean movie starring Don Lee, Lee Jin-uk, and Lalisa Manobal, which will exist in the same universe. It is safe to say that the audience will be treated to a lot of 'Extraction' content in the near future.
