Euphoria captivated fans with its iconic breakdowns, messy dynamics, and brilliant music during its first two seasons. Season 3 is now set to release on April 12, 2026, on HBO, and fans are eager to see what fate has in store for the fan-favorite characters after a five-year time jump. Ahead of the upcoming premiere, here's a look at where the teen series left things off four years ago. The second season's finale, titled "All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name," focused on the aftermath of Lexi's play 'Our Life,' which was a slightly scandalous take on the already controversial lives of the students of East Highland. The play highlighted many issues that left characters in uncharted territory.

Rue and Jules' dynamic

Rue, played by Zendaya, went through a whirlwind of emotions in her final year of high school, when she relapsed after meeting Elliot (Dominic Fike) at a party. Rue's relationship with Jules (Hunter Schaefer) reached a breaking point when the latter betrayed her by informing Rue's mother regarding the $10,000 supply of pills in her possession. The play encouraged Rue to refocus on the demons that had been plaguing her for a long time, and she thanked Lexi (Maude Apatow) for it. She also forgave Elliot for his part in the entire mess. Rue also seemed to forgive Jules, but did not reconcile with her. Their last interaction saw Rue bidding farewell to Jules with a forehead kiss. “Jules was my first love. I’d like to remember it that way. I don’t know if that’s actually true, though. I think I was high for too much of it. I know it wasn’t easy for her, and I hope she forgives me," Rue shared about the relationship in her voiceover.  "I stayed clean through the rest of the school year. I wish I could say that was a decision I made. In some ways, it was just easier. I don’t know if this feeling will last forever, but I am trying," she added. It will surely be interesting to see Rue's progress in the upcoming season.

A dramatic love triangle

In Season 1, Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Maddy (Alexa Demie) were the it couple at school, but had very toxic issues. The sophomore season began with them being separated, but clearly still having feelings for each other. Enter Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), Maddy's best friend, who fell head over heels for Nate after they got intimate on New Year's Eve. They then got into a secret relationship, where Cassie pushed herself to the brink to hold Nate's attention. Nate played with the feelings of both women throughout the season as he continued to have moments with Maddy while secretly being intimate with Cassie. Hell broke loose when Maddy discovered their affair after Rue exposed the duo. This revelation pushed Nate and Cassie to get into a relationship, and they attended Lexi's play as a couple. Lexi (Maude Apatow) put all the elements of their relationship on blast in her play, increasing the anticipation surrounding Season 3.

Lexi's play included several scenes inspired by her elder sister's life. Cassie did not take any offense but reached her limit only when Nate got embarrassed by one of the acts. Nate's character in the play performed a homoerotic rendition of "Holding Out for a Hero" with other men, which put forward certain assertions about his sexuality. This made him storm out of the auditorium with Cassie in tow. While exiting, he brutally broke up with Cassie, leaving her in tears. Cassie decided to take matters into her own hands and rushed to the stage, berating her younger sister for destroying her life. This enraged Maddy, who attacked her former best friend on stage in front of everyone. They both then headed to the washroom, where they somewhat reunited. Cassie informed Maddy about her breakup, to which the latter replied, "Don’t worry, this is just the beginning," referencing Nate's toxic behavioral patterns. It will now be interesting to see what their relationship looks like after a time jump in Season 3.

Arrests and a heartbreaking death

After exiting the theater, Nate blasted into a warehouse to have a heart-to-heart with his father, Cal (Eric Dane). He pulled a pistol on his father and vented all his pent-up anger. Cal, in this vulnerable moment, admitted that he made a "lot of mistakes" while raising Nate, which he is not proud of. But he emphasized that despite everything, he loves his son. Just when the audience thought they would witness an emotional reconciliation, police lights began flashing through the window. Nate revealed that he submitted a USB drive to the authorities, containing a collection of Cal's sex tapes recorded without consent. The most brutal blow delivered by the finale was undoubtedly the death of Ashtray, who took his last breath during a confrontation with the police. The fatal raid also led to Fezco's arrest, who could not make it to the play, despite his promise to Lexi. The playwright apparently took this rejection in her stride, without knowing the horror that had transpired.

The Season 3 trailer offered fans a glimpse into where these characters are now as adults. They are now far removed from the mess that was their high school lives, but things are just as complicated. Nate and Cassie are still together, and the trailer reveals they are planning a wedding. Maddy has become a celebrity manager, while Lexi has followed her dreams and become a part of the television production industry. Jules, on the other hand, has become a sugar baby, and Rue is a drug runner. Their lives cross paths again, forming the premise of the highly anticipated third season. Euphoria season 3 will air new episodes every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
