Recently, HBO released an extended preview of Season 3, featuring Dane's last televised performance. Dane, who played Cal Jacobs in the series, shot his scenes sometime in 2025, while battling his progressing condition. Dane is being billed as a main cast member, so the audience can hope that he will have a meaty part in the third installment. At the time of filming, Dane claimed that the viewers could expect a 'really great show' in the upcoming season.
The actor announced his condition on April 10, 2025. Just four days after the revelation, he was on set filming for the highly anticipated Season 3. At the time of sharing his statement, the 'Grey's Anatomy' alum expressed gratefulness that he was able to continue working despite the diagnosis. Sharon Stone, who will appear as a guest star, shared that the part of Cal Jacobs meant a lot to Dane. The actor apparently put in all his effort to get the part. He had lengthy discussions about the role with Stone before auditioning. "It means the world to me that he got that job in time," Stone shared in August after Dane had passed away.
In the preview, Dane appears alongside Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer). Cal Jacobs and Vaughn share a significant history in the show. At one point, the characters were involved in an extramarital affair. Vaughn is the one who approaches Jacobs in the preview with a cheeky "Remember me?" to which he responds, "How could I forget?" It seems that the pair are reuniting at a wedding. The wedding could be between Nate Jacobs and Cassie Howard, as hinted in the preview. If the speculation is true, it may suggest that the father-son pair is in a better place than in the Season 2 finale. In the finale titled ‘All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name,’ Jacobs is busted by the police because of his son's intel. Season 2 also delves into Jacob's backstory and how his present was shaped by his unrequited love for his teenage best friend, Derek Gra, Variety reported. Plans are reportedly in place to further explore this popular relationship.
Before his passing, Dane completed filming for Season 3. At the time of his passing, Sam Levinson, the show's creator, shared a heartfelt message: "I’m heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Eric. Working with him was an honor. Being his friend was a gift. Eric’s family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing." Alongside Dane, Chloe Cherry, Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Schafer, and Jacob Elordi are being billed as main cast members in the upcoming season.
