The case garnered significant attention due to its heinous nature and subsequent legal proceedings.
Dodge endured a horrifying fate as she was brutally raped and murdered in her apartment on June 13, 1996.
The chilling nature of the crime was compounded by the prolonged period it took for justice to be served and the right culprit to be apprehended.
The investigation into Angie Dodge's murder initially led to the identification of as many as six male descendants of a couple as possible suspects.
Among them, one suspect was living in Idaho in 1996 at the time of her death. However, the killer was not sentenced until 2001, following an arduous investigation.
The delayed justice in this case shed light on the challenges of ensuring a thorough and accurate legal process, as an innocent man, Christopher Tapp, was wrongly held in prison for a crime he did not commit.

Brian Leigh Dripps Sr. was the original killer behind Angie's brutal rape and murder. He was sentenced to life in prison in 2021 for the 1996 killing of Dodge in Idaho, a crime for which Christopher Tapp was exonerated.
Almost two decades after the 18-year-old was brutally murdered in her Idaho Falls apartment, the police were still searching for the killer who left his DNA at the crime scene, while Christopher, who did not match the DNA, was serving a 30-year sentence for participating in the crime, for which he did not commit.
When police started collecting the DNA of numerous local men and conducted extensive interviews with everyone that the victim knew including Christopher Tapp.
Despite the lack of a DNA match and Tapp's consistent denial of any involvement t, he ultimately confessed to participating in Dodge's murder after enduring over 28 hours of interrogation spread across 23 days.
However, a breakthrough investigation wherein a discarded cigarette butt from Dripps matched the DNA evidence taken from the crime scene, and later Dripps confessed to the crime.
He admitted to the police that he was drunk and high on cocaine when he broke into Angie Dodge's home on June 13, 1996, while she was asleep.
He claimed later that he had only intended to rape her but ended up cutting her throat so savagely with a knife that she was nearly decapitated.
Dripps lived just across the street from the victim at the time, but investigators initially focused on another man, 20-year-old Christopher Tapp.
Despite DNA evidence excluding Tapp and his claim of being coerced into a false confession by Idaho Falls police, he was convicted of the murder at trial and sentenced to prison.
