When is Jinyoung enlisting? K-pop fans say 'I can't' as GOT7 star hints at military service

New government announcement requires K-pop idols born in 1994 and yet to reach the maximum age limit to enlist in military soon

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: Looks like idol actor Park Jinyoung of GOT7 is the next Korean celebrity to enlist for his mandatory military service and fans are not ready. All healthy South Korean males by the age of 30 have to enlist for a minimum of 18 months and K-pop idols are no exception. But we have bad news. In early 2022, the South Korean government announced that all healthy Korean males born in 1994 have to enlist by December 2022.

Even though those born in 1994 only turn 29 in Korean age in 2022, the new mandate has made it compulsory for them to enlist this year. This comes as a blow for K-pop fans as they will lose idols born in 1993 and who have turned 30 according to the Korean age system and those born in 1994. This means that while fans thought that idols like NCT's Taeil, EXO's Kai and Sehun, GOT7's Jay B and Jinyoung had till 2023 to enlist, they will be going for their military service by December 2022.

Jinyoung hints at military enlistment

Park Jinyoung has been pretty busy since 2022 began, from joining a GOT7 comeback and the release of his hit K-drama 'Yumi's Cells 2' to working on three movies and voicing the animated film 'Princess Aya'. Well, to promote 'Princess Aya', Jinyoung appeared on SBS' radio show 'Power Time'. At one point, the DJ commented, "You're really working hard without rest." To this, the idol actor replied, "That's because I have to go somewhere for about a year and a half so I have to work hard now." After saying this, he wistfully smiled which has fans pretty much sure that he was talking about his military enlistment.

One fan said, "I’ll be “on military service” rp again soon. Nice info bro." Another Ahgase (GOT7 fan) tweeted, "Everyone I stan already went to military so i'm kinda numb now. I'll just feel when that day happens for Jinyoung." One fan posted, "I cant I can't PLZZ." Another shared, "I can’t believe Jinyoung has to enlist this year." One added, "Jinyoung too sexc to enlist I can take his place." Another asked, "WHY WOULD HE SAY THIS." One wondered if we would get his solo debut soon, "Bruuhh drop PJY1 now before it's too late." Another Ahgase added photos of his K-drama and joked, "Jinyoung-ah wdym🥲 you've already served."
