‘The Boys’ Season 5 Episode 5 finally teases one reunion we've all been waiting for
A-Train might have died in the season opener of 'The Boys' Season 5, but that doesn't mean there are no speedsters on the show. The latest teaser for Episode 5 sees a familiar face (and a speedster) return to the fold. Mister Marathon, played by 'Supernatural' star Jared Padalecki, appears alongside Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy and Misha Collins’ mystery character in the upcoming Episode 5, set to hit Prime Video on Wednesday.
The series dropped a crisp teaser on social media, introducing Padalecki and Collins. It's worth noting that Ackles and the new supe duo shared screen time in 'Supernatural,' making for an exciting reunion. "We came here looking for something," Homelander (Antony Starr) asks Mister Marathon. "What do you know about V1?" To which the supe responds, "You've come to the right place". In the show, Mister Marathon was The Seven's original super-fast super, but was replaced by A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) because he slowed down as he got older. The major question is why the series, which had only mentioned the character to date, brought him back into the fold.
Earlier, showrunner Eric Kripke teased that this is more than a cameo, adding: "I want a meaty, fun role that really turns the story," per EW. "He used to be at Seven Tower, he was in that conference room, he was a part of the lore," Kripke added. "So I thought that was perfect. And part of me just loved the idea of him playing a coke-blowing scumbag because he's such a good guy both in real life and in all the roles he plays. I just wanted him to be really sleazy, and he crushed it." Previously, a TV spot for the series showed the supe cop taking a tough punch from Soldier Boy. So, safe to say, there will be some fisticuffs when they all meet.
The possibilities for its introduction include whether he will be drafted back into the Seven to replace A-Train? Or will he work with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and the boys? Does he have an idea of where V1 is after the compound was reportedly with a long-existing supe called Bombsight (Mason Dye)? Or is there some dirt he has on Homelander that could help either Butcher or Soldier Boy after the events of Episode 4? As the series reached its halfway mark, the introduction of new characters added more depth to the storyline. Only time will tell how it ends for Padalecki and Collins in the episodes to come.
