When Ron Perlman lent his voice way back in the '90s to record the line "War. War never changes,” little did he know it would become the most iconic line in the 'Fallout' franchise. Fast forward to 2026, and Perlman made a surprise cameo appearance in the recently aired sixth episode of 'Fallout' Season 2, titled 'The Other Player', on Prime Video. Although the character was presented without a name, it was instantly recognizable as a Super Mutant.

The Ghoul, played by Walton Goggins, confronted his painful fate after being struck by Lucy and her Power Fist. The resultant fall impaled The Ghoul, and he was left to cry out in pain, awaiting rescue. The rescuer finally arrived in the form of the Super Mutant, who was able to extricate The Ghoul. As he eventually came around to treat The Ghoul's gaping wound with a little bit of Uranium, the Super Mutant revealed that a war was on the horizon, and the imminent antagonists were the Enclave, i.e., the hideous elite faction that claims supreme control over the post-apocalyptic wastelands.

"They call us abominations, but they created our kind," Super Mutant said while taking care of The Ghoul, as recounted by Games Radar. The former also asked the latter to join forces with an eye towards the upcoming war. The Super Mutant also reasoned that those among the Enclave considered the surface dwellers to be of no consequence and would gladly exterminate the whole lot of them. This was evident from the Enclave's control over Vault-Tec.

Interestingly, Perlman's chance contribution to the franchise's early years eventually led to a long and fruitful collaboration. Speaking about his association with the game franchise, Perlman revealed in an interview with GQ, "A gig is a gig, right? You get a call from your agent. Back in the ‘90s, I was doing a lot of Saturday morning cartoons and a lot of video games. I don’t know how to play a video game—that’s not my thing—but I’ve got the voice part. For Fallout, they give me forty dollars and a sandwich to say this catchphrase: “War. War never changes.”

Perlman was then asked about this afore-mentioned one-off voice-over work turning into a full-time work engagement, to which the veteran actor responded, "About a year and a half later, I get another call from my agent: 'Hey, remember that Fallout thing?' I didn’t." He said, “Well, they’re doing a second one.” And I said, “Why?” And he said, “Because the first one went through the roof.” And I said, “Well, I guess they’re finally gonna pay me.” And he said, “No, there's the catch. They still think they have no money.” 'Fallout' Season 2 is exclusively available on Prime Video.
