Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, Goggins spent his early years in Georgia. His mother worked for the State of Georgia in Workers Comp, while his father sold insurance.
In an interview with Slate, Goggins revealed that his parents divorced when he was just 3 years old.
Growing up in a household where television wasn't central to family time, his initial exposure to the performing arts came at the age of 6 when he watched one of his aunts perform on stage.

Walton Goggins' journey to fame wasn't devoid of hiccups. As a teenager, he started pursuing his dream of becoming an actor. A local job search led him to land a small role in the 1990 movie 'Murder in Mississippi'.
However, he always knew that to achieve more, he would have to push more boundaries and knock on a few more doors. Therefore, at the age of 19, he decided to quit college after attending for a year and moved to Los Angeles.
After making that decision, a world of opportunities opened up for him. Nevertheless, it was an uphill battle as he struggled for years to achieve prominence.

Goggins rose to prominence with 'The Shield', a crime series that premiered on FX in 2002 and concluded its run in 2008 after seven seasons.
He joined the series as a supporting cast, portraying Shane Vendrell, the best friend of the lead character.
Shortly after, he joined the cast of the FX series 'Justified', which aired from 2010 to 2015.
'Justified' received critical acclaim, with Goggins' performance earning widespread praise and earning him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
Goggins' third collaboration with FX also turned into a major success. Despite appearing in only six episodes of 'Sons of Anarchy', his performance was praised even with the limited screen time.
