'Wonder Man' teaser exposes Simon's secret and honestly it could blow his Hollywood dream apart
Marvel Studios has dropped a fresh promo for ‘Wonder Man.’ And in the process, it pretty much blew the cover off Simon Williams’ biggest secret before the show even hits Disney+. The upcoming series, which is going to be Marvel’s first Disney+ release of 2026, stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon. He’s an aspiring actor trying to score the lead role in a fictional in-universe reboot called 'Wonder Man.' Sounds stressful already. Then add superpowers. Real ones. The new 60-second teaser makes it clear that Simon isn’t just pretending to be special for the camera. He actually is.
The promo outright labels him as 'superpowered' and 'incredibly dangerous,' words delivered by Agent Cleary from the Department of Damage Control. The agency has never exactly been known for patience when enhanced people are involved. Quick flashes show Simon accidentally revealing what he can do. A table gets crushed with his strength. A burst of glowing energy sends objects flying. This means he already has these abilities when the story starts, which shuts down earlier fan theories that he might gain powers later while filming the in-universe movie. That idea is officially done. This detail matters more than it seems.
Earlier footage teased the 'Doorman Clause,' a rule in the MCU’s version of Hollywood that bans anyone with powers from auditioning for film or television roles. No exceptions. No wiggle room. For someone like Simon, whose entire dream revolves around acting, that rule is basically a career death sentence. The clause itself raises eyebrows. In Marvel Comics, Doorman is the alias of DeMarr Davis. For your reference, he’s a mutant who can become intangible and teleport others. Why his name is connected to this Hollywood rule hasn’t been explained yet.
Maybe something went very wrong in the past involving him, and the industry responded by slamming the door shut on powered performers. That leaves Simon stuck living a double life. He wants fame. He wants the role. But he must also keep the truth hidden, because discovery wouldn’t just cost him his job. It would put him directly in the crosshairs of the DODC. And according to the promo, they’re already on high alert. What's worse is that Simon doesn't seem to be in much control. The clip suggests his powers flare up when emotions spike, turning everyday situations into disasters. He is not causing the damage on purpose.
The show focuses more on the tension between his fear of slipping up, of being seen, and of losing everything he has ever worked for. Also, Ben Kingsley reprises his role as the washed-up actor Trevor Slattery, who once pretended to be the Mandarin, per The Direct. This time, he’s been recruited by Damage Control to keep tabs on Simon. The promo confirms that Slattery knows the truth and witnesses the fallout firsthand when Simon’s abilities go out of bounds. Whether he is a handler, a babysitter, or a future problem remains very unclear. Probably all three. ‘Wonder Man’ premieres on Disney+ on January 27.
