'The White Lotus' Season 4 casts 'Jurassic Park' star in prominent role after Helena Bonham Carter's exit
Emmy and Oscar winner Laura Dern has joined the cast of the upcoming Season 4 of 'The White Lotus.' Dern's addition to the HBO show's upcoming installment comes after Helena Bonham Carter's recent exit from Mike White's show. The fourth season, which is currently filming in France, had initially charted out Carter's character. However, an official HBO statement revealed that Carter exited the show after "the character which Mike White created for (her) did not align once on set."
It must be noted that Dern wouldn't simply step into Carter's shoes, but will play a revamped character written with her in mind. The upcoming installment of the popular show will also serve as a reunion of sorts between White and Carter, who previously collaborated on the HBO cult classic 'Enlightened.' Dern went on to win a Golden Globe for her contribution to the series. On the other hand, White had also written and directed the 2007 film 'Year of the Dog,' which starred John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, and Dern. The 'Enlightened' actress isn't a stranger to HBO as well, since she appeared in 'Big Little Lies' and 'Recount'.
Dern's connection with 'The White Lotus' stretches beyond the upcoming Season 4. She had previously voiced the off-screen character of Michael Imperioli's estranged wife in a few phone conversations on Season 2 of the HBO anthology show. Elsewhere, it has been confirmed that Season 4 will be set against the backdrop of the Cannes Film Festival. The narrative will focus on the staff and guests of the fictional 'White Lotus' luxury chain of hotels at two locations in the south of France. The Airelles Château de la Messardière, located in Saint-Tropez, will be featured as the White Lotus du Cap, while the Hotel Martinez on the Croisette in Cannes will be presented as the White Lotus Cannes. It is yet to be confirmed whether the show will coincide with the upcoming 2026 Cannes Film Festival, which will take place between May 12 and 23.
The ensemble cast of 'The White Lotus' Season 4 includes Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, AJ Michalka, Nadia Tereszkiewicz, and Kumail Nanjiani. The rest of the cast includes Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Chloe Bennet, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Laure Smet, and Ben Schnetzer. Mike White remains the creator, writer, and director of the show, and also serves as an executive producer in association with David Bernard and Mark Kamine. Dern is slated to star in an upcoming Sony Pictures TV drama centered around Miami Herald journalist Julie K. Brown and her investigation of Jeffrey Epstein.
