'Wednesday' Season 3 ropes 3 new stars — including a ‘Game of Throne’ actress as filming begins in Ireland
Things are particularly looking up for the upcoming third installment of the immensely popular series 'Wednesday.' Netflix confirmed on Thursday that Season 3 has added a new triumvirate of guest stars to the show's cast. Lena Heady of 'Game of Thrones' fame, 'Ted Lasso' star James Lance, and Andrew McCarthy, who is known for his contribution to 'St. Elmos's Fire,' have been added to the cast. It has further been revealed that the production on the third season is currently underway, with principal photography taking place near Dublin, Ireland. As of this writing, the streaming platform giant has yet to announce the release date for the third season.
It was previously announced that the cast of 'Wednesday' Season 3 will also include Winona Ryder, Eva Green, Noah Taylor, Chris Sarandon, Kennedy Moyer, and Oscar Morgan. In addition to these, Season 3 will also feature Emma Myers, Georgie Farmer, Joy Sunday, Moosa Mostafa, Billie Piper, Isaac Ordonez, Victor Dorobantu, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Joanna Lumley, Fred Armisen, and Evie Templeton. The core cast portraying the Addams family remains the same, with Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams.
Speaking in an interview with Tudum, 'Wednesday' co-creator and showrunner Alfred Gough explained, "Television has — and always will be — a team sport, (Co-creator and co-showrunner) Miles (Millar) and I have been doing this long enough to know that shows like this don’t come along every day. It’s such an alchemy of writing, directing, acting, crew, streamer, studio, and fans. We remain grateful and excited to continue this journey and tell these stories with all of our partners." The debut season of 'Wednesday' became the highest-watched English-language series on the streaming platform.
In terms of what to expect from the third season of the show, Gough revealed, "Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can. We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday." Millar added in a similar vein, "We will be seeing more Addams family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!"
On the other hand, Green, who has been roped in to play Aunt Ophelia, commented in another interview, "I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia. This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family." As expected, both Millar and Gough have been steadfast in their refusal to hint at any specific release date for the upcoming season. All previous episodes of 'Wednesday' are available exclusively on Netflix.
