Robert Carradine passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026. He was 71 years old at the time of his death and took his own life. Carradine was a beloved actor who had a long and fulfilling career on screen. He is survived by his older brother, Keith Carradine, and his children, grandchildren, and nephews. The 'Lizzy McGuire' star had been struggling with bipolar disorder.

Carradine's family summed up his life while speaking with Deadline, "It is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away. In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon of light to everyone around him.We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder. We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness. At this time, we ask for the privacy to grieve this unfathomable loss. With gratitude for your understanding and compassion.”

1) 'Revenge of the Nerds' 

Carradine portrayed Lewis Skolnick in this 1984 classic comedy, set on a college campus. Widely known as one of Carradine's most popular ventures, 'Revenge of the Nerds' followed a group of socially awkward misfits who are regularly bullied by their peers. In a bid to confront their bullies once and for all, the misfits form their own fraternity.  

2) Lizzie McGuire

This popular television show ran on the Disney Channel from 2001 to 2004. Carradine played the role of Sam McGuire, who was the father of the titular character played by Hilary Duff. The plot of the show chronicled the everyday struggles of a teenage girl trying her best to navigate her way through adolescence. The show's popularity eventually led to 'The Lizzie McGuire Movie' in 2003. The show is available to watch on Disney+

3) The Big Red One

Directed by Sam Fuller, this 1980 movie also starred Lee Marvin as the infamous Sergeant. Carradine appeared as Pvt. Zab, an aspiring writer serving as a rifleman. The film is today considered to be an important entry in the pantheon of World War II films and is said to have been derived from Fuller's own experience of fighting in the war. The film is available to purchase on Apple TV in select regions.

4) Cannonball

Carradine appeared in a supporting role in this comedy about cross-country racing. Released in 1976, the movie was inspired by the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash. 'Cannonball' is available to watch for free on YouTube. 

5) The Long Riders

Finally, 'The Long Riders' was released in 1980 and is a Western film illustrating the exploits of the Jesse James-Younger gang. Carradine portrayed Bob Younger, alongside real-life actor siblings who portrayed the outlaw brothers. 'The Long Riders' is available for streaming on Prime Video.
