‘RHOBH’ reunion recap: Erika Jayne reflects on $25M legal battle and emotional toll of marrying Tom Girardi
‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ star Erika Jayne opened up about her $25 million civil fraud trial during the recently released Season 15 reunion. Fans must remember that in 2021, Erika was sued for spending more than $25 million from her estranged husband Tom Girardi’s law firm, Girardi Keese. She was accused of having spent the money on her own expenses. However, she had denied the allegations ever since. At the latest reunion, host Andy Cohen asked her about her options if she were to lose the lawsuit, which is set to go to trial from May 19 onward.
In response, Erika noted, “You can file for bankruptcy, or you can fight it out in court. You can go to trial, you can cut a deal, you can die in the streets - I have no idea.” Fans must also remember that the Bravo star filed for divorce in 2020. Later, in 2024, Tom was convicted of four counts of wire fraud after a 13-day trial. He was noted to have embezzled over $15 million from his clients between 2010 and 2020. While he was under a temporary conservatorship, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Andy asked what Erika’s first question to Tom would be, to which she responded, “Why?” She would ask him why he threw her out like that. “If you think about it, I’m in an almost impossible situation. I’m swimming under all of these lawsuits,” she added.
Further, at the reunion, Erika shared that there was another partner, whose abuse brought up “a lot of other shame.” It was in addition to the shame she felt “about Tom.” Sharing more about Tom, Erika noted, “I walked on ice a lot with Tom. Looking back at it, it was always thin ice. It was constantly an interrogation. It was constantly a battle.” While opening up about the abusive situation, she noted that she felt financially and emotionally abused by Tom. “Tom one time did not talk to me for six weeks, and we lived in the same house. As sweet as Tom could be, is as vicious as Tom could be,” she mentioned.
Erika also admitted to how she “never thought” that she would be cast on Bravo’s ‘RHOBH.’ She recalled her first interview with the franchise, after which Tom told her, “You’re not going to get this job.” Later, when she got cast on the show, she shared the news with Tom, to which his reaction was, “You got the job?” As she opened up, fellow cast members also felt emotional. Erika also shared that throughout her relationship with Tom, she often wondered, “How much of that was an act?” She noted that she was in the “Tom Girardi influence.”
