When will 'The Super Mario Bros Movie' be released?

'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' will premiere on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. The initial release date for the US was supposed to be December 21, 2022, but to avoid market clashes with 'Avatar: The Way of Water', it was rescheduled to be released in April. Though one more revision confirmed the final release date, we really hope this date stands.

How will I watch 'The Super Mario Bros Movie'?

'The Super Mario Bros Movie' will be released across all theaters in the US and worldwide.

What is the plot of 'The Super Mario Bros Movie'?

As fans of the game know, 'Super Mario Bros' is about two Italian plumbers who set out on an adventure to save their beloved Princess Peach from the inferno-breathing evil King Koopa, Bowser. The sequences in the movie might show a world outside of Bowser's den and Princess Peach's castle.

The official synopsis of the movie, which does not reveal much, reads, "Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (collaborators on Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Illuminations’s Minions: The Rise of Gru), the film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and by Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo. The film will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and released worldwide by Universal Pictures."

Who stars in 'The Super Mario Bros Movie'?

'Guardians of the Galaxy' star Chris Pratt is set to win our hearts one more time as he will be voicing the loveable Italian plumber Mario. Pratt wasn't shy of expressing how surprised and excited he was about the movie on his Instagram, and also how much he adores the Mario franchise. Charlie Day will be playing the clumsier and goofier counterpart, Luigi. Anya Taylor-Joy will portray the role of Princess Peach. Given the limited scope for a character like Princess Peach, it will be interesting to see how this character has been developed, if at all, for a longer on-screen time. We will also hear Jack Black as he is a recipe for success for a comedy. He will be voicing the fire-breather, Bowser. Fred Armisen, Keegan-Michael Key, Sebastian Maniscalco, and Seth Rogen pledge allegiance to the Mushroom Kingdom as Cranky Kong, Toad, Spike, and Donkey Kong, respectively. To top it off, we have legend Kenneth Michael Richardson as Kamek, the Magikoopa, and Charles Martinet voicing several other characters.

What is the buzz around 'The Super Mario Bros Movie'?

'The Super Mario Bros Movie' will be strongly directed at children. The originality of the franchise has not been tampered with, as stated by Illumination's Chris Meledandri. “We are keeping him front and center in the creation of this film. I’ve rarely seen that happen in any adaptation where the original creative voice is embraced like we’re embracing Miyamoto,” he said in an interview with Variety.
