In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, the 20-year-old actor noted that the role of Wednesday was tailor-made for her because people have been telling her from her childhood that she looks like exactly the ‘Addams Family’ character. The actor also revealed that she has a dark sense of humor just like the character.

“People have been telling me I look like her since I was six years old. And I have a pretty dark sense of humor!” Ortega said during the interview.

During the exclusive conversation with the media outlet, the 20-year-old star also shared that she felt really “intimidating” while filming scenes with Christina Ricci, who played the titular character in the 1991 movie. Even though she felt ‘awkward’ at first, Ortega admitted that she “felt safe” on the set as soon as she met her and started filming with her.

“It was really intimidating because I have so much respect for her as an actress, and being dressed up how she was 30 years ago, it was a little awkward. But I felt safe with her on set almost immediately. She was really sweet about it, and such a generous actress,” Ortega said.

The show became so successful that Ortega saw a massive surge in followers on her social media accounts. The young star had 9.39 million followers on Instagram when the series hit the streaming platform, and as of December 7, she has more than 23.4 million followers on the image-sharing platform, meaning the actor has earned more than 13 million followers since the show started streaming.

The series continued its dominance on the streaming charts as it racked up 411.29 million hours of watch time in the second week and also became the biggest opening week ever for an English-language Netflix series.

The show is reported to be renewed for Season 2, but no official announcement has been made yet.

‘Wednesday’ is streaming exclusively on Netflix.
