LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ever since Netflix has come into existence, only a few shows have managed to create a lot of impact on the minds of people and can be called bona fide hits. Shows like ‘Money Heist’, ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Manifest’ have been among the best TV shows on the streaming platform, but now they are getting some great competition for a new show that has literally become people’s latest obsession. Yes, we are talking about ‘Wednesday’ and the show just continues to shatter viewership records.

Since the show’s release, it has managed to claim the top spot in Netflix's Top 10 series (global) for three consecutive weeks and received a lot of praise from the fans as well. But the show is in no mood to stop at all and has achieved a monumental feat on the Nielsen streaming charts. As per the newly released figures, the blockbuster hit series from Netflix has made a stunning entry to Nielsen's list of Top 10 shows and came really close to shattering the record set by ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4.

The list revealed that Jenna Ortega’s show took the top spot on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 and was watched for nearly 6 billion minutes during the November 21-27 viewing window. The figures are stunning because the show was released on Netflix on November 23 and in just five days, it managed to rake in such extraordinary numbers. Also, this is the second-biggest week of streaming ever recorded by Nielsen, only behind ‘Stranger Things’.

The record of having the biggest week is still with ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4, which was watched for 7.2 billion minutes. However, there’s a lot of difference between the numbers of ‘ST 4’ and ‘Wednesday’. The series by Duffer Brothers had a super-sized edition this time around and every episode was way over 65-70 minutes in duration. On the other hand, the biggest episode in terms of duration is 59 minutes long and most of the episodes don’t even cross the 50-minute mark. So, it’s really astonishing that ‘Wednesday’ has managed to have such an extraordinary week of viewership.

As per the all-time list, ‘Wednesday’ stands tall with 5.988 billion hours watched and is sandwiched between ‘Stranger Things’ on the list. Other shows on the list are ‘Tiger King’, ‘Ozark’, and ‘Dahmer’.

The series chronicles the journey of the iconic character Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) who has a cold and emotionless personality that makes it difficult for her to connect with her schoolmates. However, she soon finds out that she has psychic powers and can help the authorities in solving a local murder mystery along with the Sheriff of Jericho.

The show became so successful that Ortega saw a massive surge in followers on her social media accounts. The young star had 9.39 million followers on Instagram when the series hit the streaming platform, and as of December 21st, she has more than 31.8 million followers on the image-sharing platform.

Apart from Ortega, the series also stars Christina Ricci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, and more in pivotal roles.

Season 1 of ‘Wednesday’ is currently streaming on Netflix.
