Is Garcelle Beauvais the first Black woman to star in ‘RHOBH’?
Back in the day, Garcelle became the first Black woman to join the star cast of 'RHOBH.'
In an episode of Reality Life with Kate Casey, the Bravo star talked about being the first Black woman to appear on the cast in the franchise's 10-season history and said, “Did I feel the pressure of being the first Black woman on [RHOBH]? Yes, I definitely felt pressure that people wanted me to come in and do a certain thing or have a chip on my shoulder."
Garcelle went on to say, “I really didn’t want to be labeled an angry Black woman, because that’s not who I am. I just wanted to stay true to who I am, and I think that’s what people have been able to see so far.”
In that particular episode, the star, originally from Haiti, mentioned that she wasn't familiar with social media, expressing, "I was not prepared for how social media takes over."
Garcelle added, "Lisa Rinna told me that it is one thing to shoot the show. It’s another to see it and what the others have said about you. Then the whole world weighs in. There are many layers to be on the show.”
Garcelle Beauvais calls out fellow 'RHOBH' co-star Dorit Kemsley for 'Unconscious Karen Behavior'
Towards the end of an 'RHOBH' episode, Garcelle and Dorit Kemsley had an uncomfortable dinner together. Garcelle confronted Dorit about her use of the word "attacked" during a conversation at Crystal's house.
Garcelle said, “The other night the word attack just hit me in the wrong place. There are certain words when you point them at me it has a completely different impact. There are three words you don’t say to Black women. You don’t say aggressive, you don’t say attack and you don’t say angry, because that’s labeling us.”
Garcelle further added, “What I feel is there’s a pattern with you that I don’t know whether you’re aware or not, but I’m just going to be completely blunt, it feels like an unconscious Karen behavior with you.”
In a confessional, Dorit said, “This is a very, very serious, dangerous accusation. It’s hurtful, and that accusation holds a lot of implications and I’m not feeling comfortable with this at all.”
Then, Dorit asked Garcelle about her behavior, and Garcelle brought up a past conversation where Dorit mentioned having employees from diverse backgrounds.
Garcelle asked, “But Is there brown people only helping at your house?” to which Dorit replied, “No, in fact, my mother’s best friend is Black."
Garcelle responded, “Awesome, I just wanted to clarify that."
Before this incident, there was another instance where Kyle Richards unknowingly displayed racist behavior towards Garcelle.
The relationship between Kyle Richards and Garcelle Beauvais on the show 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' has always been strained.
Garcelle expressed a sense of being overlooked by Kyle and went on to label her as the least welcoming housewife. This declaration stirred upset feelings from Kyle, leading to the discussion of Garcelle's sentiments toward her becoming the focal point during the Season 10 reunion.
Garcelle expressed feeling unwelcomed by Kyle, who she felt ignored her and made harsh comments about her on social media.
Subsequently, Kyle found herself puzzled by Garcelle's accusations and attempted to defend herself by emphasizing her own kindness.
With neither party willing to concede, the situation escalated into a heated exchange of insults. Garcelle accused Kyle of being dismissive, while Kyle responded with a different perspective.
Frustrated by the conflict, Kyle opted to launch a personal attack on Garcelle by bringing up the children's hospital charity event. During this event, Kyle was hosting a fundraising party and conducting an auction to generate funds.
Garcelle attended the event and won one of the auction items by pledging to donate $5,000.
In the reunion, Kyle accused Garcelle of not honoring her pledge. This accusation incited anger from Garcelle, who issued a warning to Kyle and vehemently denied the allegation.
Subsequently, Garcelle took proactive steps by emailing her business manager to investigate the situation and address any potential misunderstandings.
