Jill Soloway’s groundbreaking Amazon series about the life of transgender woman Maura Pfefferman, Transparent', is coming to an end with a two-hour musical finale, sans the protagonist. She has died on the show, and so has the career of Jeffrey Tambor, who was fired by the show after he was accused of two counts of sexual misconducts. Despite the absence of Pfefferman, the show promises a grand finale, with the Pfeffermans continuing on their melancholic, hilarious journey of life in the face of this life-changing tragedy.

Set to premiere on September 27, the ‘Musicale Finale’ will see the family – complete with Judith Light as Shelly Pfeifferman, and Amy Landecker, Jay Duplass, and Gaby Hoffmann as siblings Sarah, Josh and Ali - coping with their grief through song.

It is clear that Maura’s death is being dramatized and her life is celebrated with music and dance. According to a statement from Amazon, the finale is inspired by many “classic musicals that shaped a culture.” It seems like the perfect goodbye for a family of self-indulgent, entitled flibbertigibbets and we are here for it. You also best believe that some of your beloved guest cast members and recurring characters will also return for the finale.

‘Transparent’ premiered on September 26, 2014 and blew people’s minds with nuanced and realistic approach to the life of a trans-woman. Even though Tambor, showrunners and the casting directors received flack for hiring a straight, white man to play the role of a trans-woman, the LGBT community and the allies were won over by the show. It has also won numerous awards from the Golden Globes and the Primetime Emmys over the years.

The synopsis for the much awaited finale reads, “When the Pfeffermans face a life-changing loss, they begin a journey hilarious and melancholy, brazen and bold. As they face this new transition, they confront grief and come together to celebrate connection, joy, and transformation.”

It remains to be seen if the musical numbers will take away from what could be a poignant, reflective moment in the lives of the Pfeffermans, or if it will help accentuate their pain in the most Pfefferman-esque way.

Don’t forget to catch it when ‘Transparent: Musicale Finale’ premieres on Amazon Prime on Friday, September 27.
