It is that time of the month again with Gaon awarding sales certificate acts to the top K-pop acts in the month of May. The Korean music chart releases a monthly list where they award badges like platinum and million-seller badges as we saw the likes of TWICE and Red Velvet being honored in the past.

In April, we saw groups like NCT Dream, Stray Kids and Red Velvet proving their popularity with best-selling albums. Gaon partners up with KMCA to honor K-pop albums that cross 250k sales and are older than six weeks. This is why fans knew groups like Monsta X and IVE would be making the list in May.

Gaon honors album sales certificate to Red Velvet, IVE

On June 9, Gaon Chart released the list for May that included K-pop acts that have been awarded album sales certificates. Red Velvet may have made a comeback in March but their past albums are still breaking personal records. Their compilation album ‘The ReVe Festival: Finale’ released in 2019 is now a platinum album. In the meantime, their latest single ‘Feel My Rhythm was #7 on Monthly Digital Chart, #9 on Weekly Streaming Chart and #6 on Monthly Streaming Chart. Their 2017 mini-album ‘The Red Summer’ also saw a renewed interest as it charted at #10 on the Weekly Album Chart. At the same time, Seulgi and Irene’s first sub-unit mini-album ‘Monster’ has also become a platinum-seller.

Rookie girl group IVE is doing pretty well as their April album ‘Love Dive’ has become double platinum. Their lead single of the same name is also #4 on Weekly Digital Chart, #2 on Monthly Digital Chart, #3 on Weekly Streaming Chart and #2 on Monthly Streaming Chart.

Their labelmate, Monsta X’s ‘Shape of Love’ has been an immense success too, as the album had garnered a whopping 171k sales in the first 10 hours of the release itself. And so, it was no surprise that ‘Shape of Love’ is now a platinum-selling album having crossed 250k sales. Soloist Heize was also acknowledged for her 2021 lead single ‘Happen’ which is now platinum for 100 million streams on Gaon.

NCT Dream and PSY continue to top the charts

While we will have to wait a month before NCT Dream gets a million-seller badge for their May release ‘Beatbox’, fans are now celebrating them dominating the charts. Their lead single ‘Beatbox’ was #1 on Weekly Digital Chart and Weekly Download Chart while the album topped the Weekly Album Chart and Weekly Retail Album Chart. The single was also #10 on the Monthly Download Chart and #2 on Weekly BGM Chart. The album was #4 on the Monthly Album Chart and #5 on the Monthly Retail Album Chart while their debut album ‘We Young’ ended up entering the Weekly Album Chart at #7.

PSY also continues to prove his title as the ‘Viral King’ despite his five-year hiatus as ‘That That’ featuring BTS' Suga is #1 on Monthly Digital Chart, Weekly Streaming Chart and Monthly Streaming Chart. It is also #2 on Weekly Digital Chart, #4 on Monthly BGM Chart, #5 on Weekly Download Chart and Monthly Download Chart.

Lim Youngwoong, the million-seller trot sensation is also still on the top with his debut album as the lead single ‘If We Ever Meet Again’ is #1 on the Monthly Download Chart while the other B-sides occupy #6 to #9 positions on the chart. The lead single is also #3 on the Weekly Download Chart while ‘Our Blues’ is at #6 and ‘Rainbow’ is at #8. ‘If We Ever Meet Again’ is #9 on Weekly Digital Chart, #5 on Monthly Digital Chart. It also topped the Monthly BGM Chart while ‘Our Blues was at #9. ‘Our Blues’ was also #7 on the Weekly BGM Chart. The album ‘Im Hero’ topped the Monthly Retail Album Chart and was #3 on the Monthly Album Chart.

Seventeen is also in the midst of a popular comeback as they became million sellers on the first day of the album's release. The lead single ‘Hot’ was #1 on the Weekly BGM Chart, #7 on Weekly Digital Chart, #2 on Weekly Download Chart, #4 on Monthly Download Chart and #3 on Monthly BGM Chart.
