TIME dubs BTS 'princes of global pop' as they grace cover with HYBE founder Bang PD
BTS is arguably the biggest K-pop group, boy group and pop group at the moment. With their global influence, they also do pretty well in any field they dabble in from being global ambassadors for Louis Vuitton to teaming up with food chains like Mcdonald's and video games. It was just a matter of time before TIME magazine acknowledged them for their impact. The entrepreneurial magazine that looks like powerful people around the world invited BTS to grace its cover along with their label’s founder Bang PD aka Bang Si-hyuk.
BTS first made history by gracing TIME in 2018 followed by their cover in 2020. This is the third time that the music group has teamed up with the magazine. And it also features Bang PD, their mentor and the former CEO of HYBE for April 2022. Originally known as Big Hit, HYBE went from a small K-pop label that co-managed other groups like JYPE's 2AM to forming BTS, their first K-pop group and turning into the multinational conglomerate it is now. And so, it was no surprise that TIME also chose HYBE as one of the ‘100 Most Influential Companies’ in their April edition for the second time after their 2021 list.

Bang PD says BTS is the 'King of K-pop'
With BTS and HYBE’s organic growth, they've gone on to break records, make history and undertake huge ambitious projects. And fans have always taken it upon themselves to trend ‘BTS paved the way’ and it looks like even TIME is agreeing. While introducing the global music group, TIME stated, “For BTS, that meant ignoring the limitations placed on earlier K-pop groups and establishing themselves as the princes of global pop.” We also had Bang PD proudly agreeing and adding that they were also the aces in their own home country, “BTS has been the king of the K-pop scene for a very long time.”
'BTS paved the way'
Fans cheered for BTS’ latest illustrious appearance as they made tweets like, “BTS king of the music industry.” Another ARMY posted, “Bang PD with the 7 men who built HYBE from the ground with him.” With TIME captioning their cover as ‘HYBE is reinventing the music business with a little help from BTS!’, fans took it upon themselves to explain that TIME wasn’t taking a dig at the group, “I’ll add to the clarification because it’s important to note: When “with a little help” phrase is used in English, please know that it’s sarcasm and actually means the complete opposite. Time magazine is saying that BTS was actually ESSENTIAL in getting HYBE to where they are.”
One fan explained why they were celebrating, “Bts appeared on the oscar, covered 3rd time magazine, dynamite hit 1.3 billion views and they got named global princes of pop yet you excepted us not to trend "bts paved the way" ???” Another ARMY flexed, “TIME Magazine saying that BTS ignored "the limitations placed on earlier K-pop groups" is just their fancy way of saying that BTS paved the way lol.”
