LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Not even in the galaxy, far, far away! 'Star Wars' is undoubtedly one of the biggest franchises in the world right now, and several new projects were rumored to be in development, including an original movie by 'Wonder Woman' director Patty Jenkins and Marvel Studio's Kevin Feige productions. A recent report reveals that these projects have now been shelved by Lucasfilm.

Following the long-running success of three film trilogies, there has been a sudden slowdown in anticipation for the next feature film in the 'Star Wars' universe. This can most likely be attributed to the box office bombing of the last Star Wars movie 'The Rise of Skywalker' in 2019. Now, with the recent release of 'Mandalorian' Season 3 ruling the streaming platform, the fans of the series are curious to know and learn more about the upcoming movie of the franchise.

No for Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins

According to Variety, an original standalone movie, titled 'Rogue Squadron', which was supposed to be helmed by director Patty Jenkins has been shelved. This project was announced in 2020. On the other hand, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige's produced Star Wars film, written by Michael Waldron, has also been shelved. This movie was also supposed to be an original project rather than a sequel. Currently, Feige is busy with Phase 5 of the MCU, while Waldron is set to write the next 'Avengers: Secret Wars'. This has left the future 'Star Wars' movies in question. But the upcoming Star Wars Celebration convention in London might give fans an insight into the expected features.

'Bummer'

Ever since the news of the shelved 'Star Wars' projects was made public, fans of the franchise have been vocal about the future of their beloved franchise, with news of the cancellation receiving a mixed response from the audience. One fan wrote, "Bummer. This would be cool to see though. Jabba origin story, but in like grimy 1970’s NY." One fan added, "Feige's Star Wars would've been interesting though". While another fan shared their disappointment by adding, "How is it possibly that Lucafilm and Disney, two of the biggest entertainment companies tlon the planet, can't get it together with one of the biggest names in movies, Star Wars? This is just sad." One fan wanted to stop making further Star Wars movies by adding, "Just stop making SW movies, we got two great trilogies and two awesome spin offs".

'We want Bryce Dallas Howard’s Star Wars cinematic universe NOW'

On the other hand, some fans wanted other filmmakers to take the mantle for directing the new Star Wars film. One fan wrote, "Rian Johnson trilogy as the replacement? Please". While another commented, "We want BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD’s Star Wars cinematic universe NOW", noting her work on series like 'The Mandalorian' and 'The Book of Boba Fett'. While another fan added, "Can we get a James Cameron Star Wars trilogy?". Meanwhile, another defended Patty Jenkins by stating, "Hollywood has been very unkind to Patty since WW84. We all have our missteps. I hope she gets another big project soon."

The unlucky Patty Jenkins

It is to be noted that Jenkin's project plans for DC's 'Wonder Woman 3' had been previously scrapped. This decision comes from a long list of cancellations due to the new plans that James Gunn has for the DC universe. It is to be noted that Jenkins co-wrote and directed the first two installments of 'Wonder Woman' which has given us a new Wonder Woman for this generation.
