'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' almost gave Finn a chance to speak but never revealed what he wanted to say

Finn's arc in the movie did get a bit weird, especially because he almost came to the point of making a major announcement and not only did the movie fail to actually deliver this moment, but it also practically forgot all about it by the end.

'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' was one of the most awaited movies of the year, the epic conclusion to a saga stretching across almost half a century. Such a shame it had to have so many glaring problems and inconsistencies.

In all fairness, the movie may actually still be a fun watch for the casual moviegoer, though it would take more than a little suspension of disbelief to get through some of the more strange moments.

That said, there are some issues with the movie that can't be excused at all. John Boyega gave a pretty solid performance as the Stormtrooper-turned-Rebel Finn/FN-2187 in the film. However, his arc in the movie did get a bit weird, especially because he almost came to the point of making a major announcement and not only did the movie fail to actually deliver this moment, but it also practically forgot all about it by the end.

WARNING: Spoiler alert for 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'

In a scene where Finn, Rey (Daisy Ridley), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and their droid companions are about to die (which does happen quite often), Finn tells Rey that he has something to tell her before he dies. He doesn't get to complete his statement and that's the last we hear of it.

Well, almost. Poe does bring it up again when they're about to die (again) later on but Finn doesn't give a proper answer and by the end of the movie there's not even a hint of the moment ever having happened.

One theory is that he was about to tell Rey he loves her but since we never saw him say that and we did see Rey making out with Ben Solo/Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), we have no idea how that could have affected the story. Another possibility is that he was about to tell her he's in love with Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), which would have given Rose at least a shred of the recognition she deserves, but no such luck either.

At least now we can continue to believe that Finn's one true love will always be Poe and no one else. It seems more than a little likely considering the insane chemistry between the two characters and maintaining the possibility of that happening is the one reason we can think of that would explain why this moment was so randomly put in and taken out. Well, it's either that or just bad writing.

'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' began playing in theaters starting on December 20.
