Christine Cain from California was another contestant who came for the blind auditions on the premiere episode of ‘The Voice’ Season 20. The versatile singer covered Harry Styles’ popular number ‘Watermelon Sugar’ with a mix of soul and got mixed reactions from the coaches.

The very first episode of ‘The Voice’ season 20 premiered with the judges namely Blake Shelton, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson. Nick Jonas made his deserving comeback on the show replacing Gwen Stefani as the judge on the big red chair. Carson Daly, like always, took care of the hosting responsibilities.

Who is Christine Cain?

The 27-year-old crooner from Pasadena, California got excited to see Nick back on the show hinting that she might be interested to join his team but to everyone’s surprise, only John Legend and Kelly Clarkson turned their respective big red chairs. Nick Jonas and Blake Shelton seemed less impressed with Christine’s performance and did not turn their chairs till the end. This might have left Christine a little heartbroken.

John Legend and Kelly Clarkson tried their best to pick her in their respective teams. John said it the most soulful version of that song he’s heard whereas, Kelly liked that Christine was “performing the song coz she’s having fun.” After much deliberation, Christine picked Legend as her coach for the rest of her ‘Voice’ journey. Christine Cain used to be a dancer but got self-conscious with time and therefore decided to try her skills in singing and her latest performance was only her fourth time on the stage ever.

‘Offended at the fact that Nick didn’t turn for Christine’

As soon as Christine’s performance on her blind auditions ended, social media users took to Twitter to talk about how Nick did not turn for her even after she showed interest in joining his team. One user stated, “#TheVoice CHRISTINE CAIN has a TONE Sweet as WATERMELON Watermelon SUGAR!” Another added, “Christine Cain picking an unexpected song. She brings some silliness to the vocal, a little breathy, but a nice vibe. She got into her nose a bit but this was pretty good. #TheVoice #premiere” One said, “i am SO offended at the fact that nick didn’t turn for christine- #TheVoice” Another posted, “#TheVoice I just wanna know if Christine is mad at nick for not turning around. He mighta lost a fan.”
