'The Voice' 2023: Deaf artist Alyssa Ibarra who 'feels' music stuns coaches with 'incredible' singing

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Voice' Season 23 has already provided us with some very talented artists like Savion Wright, Jamar Langley, and Ryley Tate. A young artist who took 'The Voice' stage by storm during the Monday, March 13 episode, was Alyssa Ibarra or as you may know her as Ali. 

The 24-year-old singer comes from a musical family as her father and sister are also singers. During her Season 23 blind auditions Ali dropped a bombshell on the judges that left them in shock, the singer was born deaf. Despite her impairment, Ali has an amazing talent and got both Kelly Clarkson and Chance the Rapper to turn at the same time.

Who is 'The Voice' Season 23 contestant Alyssa Ibarra?

Ali was born in Los Angeles California and comes from a musical family as she is the daughter of musician Gootch Ibarra. Even Ali's younger sister Kammy Elyse is a singer and an actor. The young artist is a huge fan of the LA Dodgers and enjoys baseball games with her father. 

Ali was born deaf but the young artist hasn't let her impairment stop her. She is very close to her mother and sister and has even shared that it was her sister who encouraged her to dream big. Ali auditioned for 'The Voice' Season 23 as she loves to sing and also because she wants to share her voice and story with the world.

For her blind auditions, Ali chooses to sing 'Killing Me Softly With His Song' and turned chairs with her talent. After her performance, Ali revealed to the coaches that she was born deaf and wears a hearing aid. She also shared that she might not be able to hear but she can "feel" the music. This leaves the coaches speechless and Blake Shelton comments, that she would be the last person he would think was deaf.

Kelly compliments Ali and says, "The changes you made to the song just made it so you. Your runs were incredible." Kelly and Chance have a little tiff to get Ali on their team as Kelly calls the singer "gifted." Chance shares that he works with an organization that supports impaired artists and hopes Ali picks him. Ultimately Ali decides to go with Team Kelly and this prompts Kelly to run on the stage and hug the contestant. 

'The Voice' airs every Monday and Tuesday at 8 pm ET on NBC. But if you miss it, you can watch 'The Voice' Season 23 with FuboTV or stream it on Peacock.
