Season 3 of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ has finally been released on Netflix and fans are really excited to see the group returning for another adventure. The latest season is special in many ways. One, the show is returning after a hiatus of two years and there’s a lot of curiosity among the viewers. Second, Elliot Page’s character Vanya will be shown going through a transition and re-introduced as Viktor.

This has been one of the main reasons why many fans are so excited about Season 3. The makers announced in 2020 that Page will continue to be a main member of the cast and they are re-writing to reflect the change. Now that Season 3 is finally available for streaming, we are finally able to witness the beautiful moment when Viktor decides to show who he has always been. In Episode 2, Vanya transitions to Viktor after seeing some of his emotional flashback sequences with Sissy. At that time, he decides to be what he really is. He visits a barber and gets a haircut. A few moments later, Viktor tells about his transition to Diego, Klaus, and Five during a conversation. Everyone is really happy to see how good Viktor feels about this drastic change. However, we witness a magical moment when he opens up about his transition to Allison.

'The Umbrella Academy' Season 3: Here's how the show introduced Elliot Page as Viktor Hargreeves

He tells Allison that he didn’t “fully” know that he wanted to change, but the time he spent with Sissy “opened something” in him and showed that he would “never be free” if he continued hiding from who he really is. He added, “And after losing her I realized I just can’t live in that box anymore. I won’t.” The duo stopped in front of a shop and Viktor looked in the mirror and said, “I always hated mirrors. I thought everybody looked so strange in their skin. I guess that’s not true.”

Allison goes ahead and asks him, “What do you see now?” Viktor proudly says, “Me. Just me.”

This sweet and tender moment made everyone emotional and fans did not shy away from showing how teary-eyed they were during the sequence. Social media users thanked the makers and Page for having such a simple yet impactful transition scene, saying that Viktor means so much to them.

One of the fans wrote, “I truly hope @theelliotpage knows how much he and Viktor Hargreeves means to so many of us trans fans. I stayed up to binge the show and cried for hours over getting to see his transition and coming out in the show. Thank you so much.” Another social media user tweeted, “VIKTOR HARGREEVES COMING OUT TO HIS FAMILY AND THEM REACTING SO CASUALLY IS SO SPECIAL I AM EMOTIONAL.”

“ITS WHO IVE ALWAYS HEEN VIKTOR HARGREEVES I LOVE YOU SO MUCH THANK YOU FOR EXISTING,” wrote another user. “I actually love Viktor’s transition being a haircut and realization. Not every trans character needs to be driven by being miserable. I’m trans so actually am right about this. This is a Viktor Hargreeves love account.”
Meanwhile, one of the fans said, “Viktor's character arc became something extremely personal.” Another one tweeted, “Viktor Hargreaves is everything I hoped for and this was handled so gracefully from one queer af Atlantic Canadian to another. CONGRATS ELLIOT YOU KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK.”

“Viktor Hargreeves is such a huge win for trans representation in fiction. Some of these scenes--just straight chills,” wrote another one.

Seeing the reaction, it certainly feels how big of a win it is for the Trans community. Elliot Page is the soul of the series and her portrayal of Viktor is absolutely riveting.

Season 3 is being called much darker than the previous editions and it’s also the most emotional edition yet. As of now, it currently holds a rating of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.
