From Donald Trump running for the president of the United States to the coronavirus pandemic, The Simpsons has time and again left viewers stunned with their ability to accurately predict the future. And now, after 33 seasons, the secret behind the show's seer-like ability is finally going to be revealed in Season 34.

Showrunner Matt Selman recently sat down for an interview with The Deadline in which he teased that there will be a surprise episode in Season 34 that will offer insights on how they can predict the future so accurately.

"We have another crazy conceptual episode that explains how The Simpsons know the future," Selman said. "It's a conceptual episode with lots of crazy stuff in it, but it does an explanation of how The Simpsons can predict the future," he added. Selman, who became the co-showrunner in 2020 after joining the writing staff of the show back in 1997, also claimed that the new season of the series was probably going to be the 'best 34th season of any show you've ever seen.'

'The Simpsons' has managed to set a record of being the longest-running primetime series with 728 episodes to date. For a series running for 33 long years, it is difficult to maintain consistency in serving up laughs but 'The Simpsons' has managed to keep their content fresh. Speaking about the creative challenges the writing staff of the show faces, Selman said, "That’s our greatest creative challenge, to make sure that every episode is unique and distinct and has something fresh to say. Luckily the world keeps delivering things that need reflecting on in the Springfield mirror. So that’s a thank-you to the world, but also the world needs to do better. I don’t have any problem with repeating an emotional dynamic."

Selman revealed that 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' star Simu Liu will also guest star in an episode titled, 'Lisa's perfect future boyfriend.' Apart from him, actress Melissa McCarthy will also guest star as a "kid who's Homer's rival for love from Grandpa." Selman said, "She plays kind of a quirky kid who has Grandpa's love and Homer's like, 'Why does Grandpa like this kid? And why didn't he like me?' It's really emotional as well."
