‘Line of Fire’ sets release date as ‘9-1-1’ fan-favorite returns to TV

NBC's new fall drama drops one family into four competing loyalties at once, with Peter Krause making a comeback.

Peter Krause is returning to television, and NBC has given us a first look at what to expect from him in his latest project. The network released the trailer for ‘Line of Fire’ on Thursday, while also confirming that the new drama will debut on Monday, September 21, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, with episodes available to stream the following day on Peacock. For fans of ‘9-1-1,’ who saw Krause leave the series, this may come as a welcome sight, as he seems to have landed in a role perfectly suited to his talents.

‘Line of Fire’ follows the Hollingsworth family, all of whom are federal law enforcers working in different agencies. Krause plays Mike Hollingsworth, a Secret Service agent and the household's patriarch, whose wife, Jane (Hope Davis), is a US Marshal. Their children include Clare (Kat Cunning), an FBI agent, Micah (Tommy O’Brien), another Secret Service agent, and Russ (Taylor Bloom), who works in the DOJ.

Charlie Barnett also joins the cast. The family is all about work before play, as seen in the trailer, where they have little time to sit down for dinner together, let alone discuss what's on their minds. This changes when an apparently straightforward case takes a turn for the worse, putting one family member in danger and forcing the others to work together to save them, even if it means going against the system they serve.

The series was created by Joshua Safran, who also serves as showrunner, with Jenna Bush Hager and Ben Spector serving as executive producers, alongside Rebecca Thomas, who directed the pilot episode and also serves as an executive producer. It appears that ‘Line of Fire’ is aiming to be much more than just another mid-season procedural drama. Krause seems to have landed a role that suits him well, as he explained to TV Insider at the ATX TV Festival in May.

He feels that family dramas are a genre that keeps finding him, like ‘Parenthood’ and ‘Six Feet Under,’ and he has no particular reason for it. “I think it has to do with relationships between people, and then over time, you get to develop working relationships with people," he said. "I think that the work gets better because you get to know them."

The actor continued, “Because you have these familial relationships of familiarity breeds contempt, right? I had a therapist who once said, because I was talking about my dad, ‘You know why your parents can push your button so well?’ And he said, ‘Because they installed it.’ But that is the fun of these kinds of shows is because then you can be open and be irritated and all that and feel sorry.”

That seems to be the appeal of ‘Line of Fire,’ where a family knows exactly how to push each other’s buttons, even if they are working together to take down dangerous criminals. ‘Line of Fire’ debuts on Monday, September 21, at 10/9c on NBC, with episodes also available to stream on Peacock the following day.
