'The Righteous Gemstones' Episode 8 title 'But the righteous will see their fall' gives us a hint about what we can expect in the upcoming episode of the show. Last we saw, Jesse (Danny McBride) and his son Gideon (Skyler Gisondo), were tied down in the empty vault by Scotty (Scott MacArthur) who took all the money in the vault and bid his former best friend, Gideon, a goodbye.
In the coming episode, Jesse is definitely going to realize how big a part his son took in blackmailing him and this could essentially bring about the fall of the family. In fact, it is not just Jesse who would learn the truth now, but Eli Gemstone (John Goodman) as well and come to think of it, Jesse's wife Amber (Cassidy Freeman) can't possibly be kept in the dark any longer now.
Considering Jesse was physically hurt by Scotty, and that Eli was punched by Scotty in the face in episode 7 before he drove off to the church where the vault is, things have escalated pretty quickly in the show.
We must also consider Kelvin (Adam Devine) and Judy's (Edi Patterson) reaction to the fact that the one witness to all their transgression happens to be none other than their nephew. Will this bring about a rift in the family and if so, what exactly are the Gemstones going to do now?
It is unlikely Eli would let the family involve itself in an investigation that could lead to negative press, especially considering their animosity with the local Locust Grove church, and Reverend John Wesley Seasons (Dermot Mulroney). The Reverend has been lobbying believers by pointing out the flaws of the Gemstone family, so this is definitely not the time to get tied up in an robbery investigation or be in a position where they have to submit their earnings to a government authority. So how will the family take Gideon's part in the heinous plot and will he be forgiven?
One of the persons to be most hurt by all of this would be Jesse's wife and Gideon's mother, Amber. She truly believed Gideon had returned to the family because he had missed them and wanted to be with them again. When she learns the truth about Gideon, their relationship may be fractured forever and Gideon could essentially be cut off from his family without a penny.
Will he regret his decision to not betray his family then? That and Scotty's fate after escaping with millions of dollars is something we would have to watch out for in the coming episode of 'The Righteous Gemstones' which will air Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.
