'The Righteous Gemstones' episode 7: Will Judy finally have her say and resolve the ongoing conflict with her father?
'The Righteous Gemstones' is digging deeper into the family's drama, especially after we saw the truth behind Baby Billy and Eli Gemstone's relationship in episode 5. The show followed it up by finally addressing the conflict between Judy (Edi Patterson) and her father Eli, who has so far shown no interest in shining the spotlight on her as part of the Gemstone team. She only works in the background and every time Judy has tried to bring this up, her father has only waylaid her. In episode 6, Judy finally had had it when she brought this up for discussion yet again, only to have her father ignore her and her brothers infuriate her by insulting her intelligence.
Baby Billy found this to be a great opportunity to manipulate Judy to destroy Eli's relationship with her as he believes he destroyed Baby Billy's relationship with his sister Aimee Leigh (Eli's deceased wife).
In light of this, the stills released by HBO from the upcoming episode hint at two things. First, Eli may not have changed his mind despite Judy's drastic steps, which saw her take the stage and perform with her uncle. One of the stills features Kelvin, Jesse and Eli on stage but no Judy. This makes us wonder how she would react to being continually ignored by her father about her requests to be a bigger part of what the Gemstones do - a lot of which is in front of the camera and under the spotlight.
Secondly, does Judy finally speak to her father without losing her temper, and put her point across? Another still features Judy and Eli having a conversation. Going by the outfit that Eli is wearing, this might be taking place right after Kelvin, Jesse and Eli's performance. Will Judy be finally successful in communicating to her father what she wants? We will have to watch this in the upcoming episode.
Another still shows Gideon continuing his association with fellow stuntman from LA, Scotty, who was part of the 'lets blackmail Jesse Gemstone for money' plan. Only, this time Scotty has reached Gideon's doorstep. We saw in episode 6 that he had cleaned up enough for Jesse to not recognize him even. So the two might be planning another way to hoodwink Jesse. Then we have Jesse and his wife Amber look just fine in another still, which wouldn't have been weird, but considering Amber did see her husband involved in a road rage incident, followed by him pulling out his gun at two individuals, it is quite strange.
Yes, Amber has always taken her husband's words to be true, but this was something that she saw herself. So, why would she be okay with her husband's acts? We might see this relationship explored further in the upcoming episodes.
'The Righteous Gemstones' episode 7 will air on September 30, Sunday at 10 pm ET on HBO.
