'The Night Agent's huge opening leads Netflix to renew the Gabriel Basso starrer series for Season 2
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix dropped a sizzling new series just a week back on March 23, 2023, and it has made quite an impact. As we know last year, the streaming giant canceled the renewal of many fan-favorite series starting from 'Fate: The Winx Saga,' to 'Warrior Nun,' because of which Netflix faced much backlash from the fans. Nevertheless, let's talk about new beginnings, 'The Night Agent' snuck its way to the top of Netflix’s English-language TV chart recently. The series, created by Shawn Ryan and based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk, debuted on March 23, raking in 168.7 million hours viewed in its first few days on the streamer. According to Netflix, that is the third-best premiere week of viewing across Season 1 TV for any Netflix Original. It also appeared in the Top 10 in 93 countries. Gabriel Basso leads the Netflix series, while it also stars Luciane Buchanan, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Sarah Desjardins, Eve Harlow, Phoenix Raei, Enrique Murciano, D. B. Woodside, and Hong Chau.

Season 2 was renewed just after a week
According to Variety, the streaming giant has handed out a swift second-season renewal to the drama from Sony Pictures Television and showrunner Shawn Ryan. As we mentioned earlier the Gabriel Basso starrer debuted Thursday and immediately reached No. 1 on Netflix’s English TV list with more than 168 million hours watched, making it the most viewed title this week. The second season will arrive in 2024 and consist of another round of 10 episodes. The plot of the series follows FBI Agent Peter Sutherland (Basso), who is thrown into a vast conspiracy about a mole at the highest levels of the United States government. To save the nation, Peter plunges into a desperate hunt for the traitor, while working with the terrorized ex-CEO Rose Larkin and protecting her from the people who murdered her aunt and uncle.
The idea of an underdog
“I like the idea of an underdog, someone who is the least important person in a very important place, in this case, a low-level FBI agent who works in a windowless room in the basement of the White House,” Ryan told The Hollywood Reporter’s TV’s Top 5 podcast. “Everyone around him is more important than him. He stumbles onto this thing and he’s suddenly, like in classic Hitchcock movies, somebody who is an ordinary person thrust into an extraordinary situation.”
