Episode 4 begins with the thrilling premise of Ptolemy and Robyn (Dominique Fishback) pulling up the floorboards to dig out a small chest that contains Coydog's treasure. While Robyn expected it to be full of treasure it turns out to be basically empty with the exception of a small key and two small coins. But those coins which are the last ones out of 14 that Coydog (Damon Gupton) stole are worth thousands of dollars and are, in fact, precious doubloons. This takes back Ptolemy to the days when he was 7 years old and saw Coydog getting lynched and burned to death opening up the doors of the past showcasing the emotional scars he has.

Focusing primarily on family we see Ptolemy and Robyn's relationship thicken as the former adopts a paternal role toward the young girl. The interactions between the two are extremely heartwarming, wholesome, and real as they share their thoughts and feelings with each other. Fishback has been giving solid performances thus far but is especially brilliant this episode as we get an insight into Robyn's past. Fishback gives a great emotional performance and truly captures the girl whose toughness is a shield to a wounded and scared heart.

Jackson too shines as Ptolemy and gives out the warmth, care, and concern of a father. We also learn of his kind heart that still loved Sensia (Cynthia McWilliams) despite her cheating on him and the understanding that he portrays when Niecie (Marsha Stephanie Blake ) calls social services on him, in an attempt to deem him incompetent and grab his money and property.

Episode 4 showcases the value of family to Ptolemy who has already planned to take care of them in the future. Be it blood relations or chosen family, to the old man family is everything, with the hour-long episode ending with Ptolemy finding a clue to Reggie's (Omar Benson Miller) killer and getting ready to take action. Avenging his grand-nephew has always been on his mind which showcases that even though family may be gone, they deserve justice. Albeit a slower watch, the fourth episode touches the heart.

New episodes of 'The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey' are out each Friday on Apple TV+.
