'The Good Place' Season 4 Episode 3: The experiment is not going as planned, but is Team Human 'Chillaxing' too soon?

Eleanor has a tough time navigating through her heartache, especially knowing that Chidi - whose memory is erased - does not remember her, but lives in the same fake Good Place as his ex-girlfriend Simone.

Give every human a fair shot at getting to the Good Place during their afterlife, or let all of humanity be doomed to be tortured at the Bad Place - these are the two options that Team Humans were given when they decided to host an experiment as per the Judge's (Maya Rudolph) instructions. Season 4 Episode 2 of 'The Good Place' explored just how tedious the task actually is, and how much is at stake for everyone involved - Michael (Ted Danson), Eleanor (Kristen Bell), Jason (Manny Jacinto), Tahani (Jameela Jamil), Janet (D'Arcy Carden), and even Chidi (Willian Jackson Harper), even though he doesn't know it at the moment.

They came to the unanimous conclusion in the previous episode that even though they all doubted it for a second, Eleanor is the best leader for the pack. Even though she is hurting from the non-breakup with Chidi, she is capable of making rational and strategic decisions to help save all of humanity. She did have a tough time navigating through the pain, especially knowing that Chidi - whose memory has been erased - does not remember her, but lives in the same fake Good Place as his ex-girlfriend Simone (Kirby Howell-Baptiste).

Meanwhile, Jason is dealing with a heartache that he has never experienced before, and Tahani is struggling to relate to the man who wrote smut about her when they were both alive. Simone, who was treating her experience at the Good Place as a hallucination created by her comatose mind, has decided to be better, thanks to Chidi. He reminded her that she has nothing to lose by being good and kind, and this may allow her points to go up.

Chidi also promises to continue being a good human, but the fates of John (Brandon Scott Jones) and Brent (Benjamin Koldyke) in the afterlife remain in question. While John thinks that he has nothing to prove to anyone, Brent believes that he deserves a spot in an even better place. Meanwhile, the upcoming episode is called 'Chillaxing' which makes us wonder if that is exactly what the team is up to - chillaxing because they think everything will fall into place.

We sure hope not, but we will only know for sure when Season 4 Episode 3 of 'The Good Place' airs on NBC on Thursday, October 10.
