'The Good Doctor' Season 4 Episode 1: Shaun and Lea's Zoom sex has fans begging 'don't make us sit through this'

Viewers remarked how 'horny' Shaun is trying to get 'more than others' in this period of lockdown and it certainly left them feeling awkward too

To say Shaun Murphy (Freddy Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) are still in that honeymoon phase of their relationship would be an understatement. Shaun, who has been in all of one relationship before Lea, doesn't know the cool kids' dos and don't when it comes to dating. Lea, who has played the field aplenty, knows what's too soon and what's acceptable at what point in a relationship. This ends up in a lot of insisting what's too soon for the journey, and at other times, once the Covid-panic and quarantine norms set in, there's the whole prospect of phone sex being the most action one can get. Shaun and Lea arrive at that point in their relationship in the Season 4 premiere titled 'Frontline part 1' and while things get reasonably awkward for Shaun — something all fans would have expected — what was absolutely unforeseen is how horny Shaun would be for actual physical intimacy. 

The Shaun and Lea relationship — Shea if you will — goes smoothly for the most part. Despite fears of a break up as Shaun's tense outburst at Alex Park had hinted, the only reason they are apart is that Shaun's a frontline worker and he doesn't want to risk Lea getting infected. This comes after the slightly unprecedented tussle between the two about Lea starting to stay over at Shaun's place, so going from her having her things in his cabinets to absolutely no physical contact whatsoever must be difficult. So Shaun steals the idea off of one of his Covid-patient's wife, who is always glued to him through Facetime as the older man recovers in the hospital, and applies that in his relationship with Lea.

Shaun video calls Lea and the two inevitably get to the point of down and dirty over the screen with each other, and like most computer sex fails, this ends up being frustratingly awkward too. Shaun gives up midway, proclaiming he doesn't want to have sex like this, he wants to be with Leah in person — something that prompted viewers to remark how 'horny' Shaun is trying to get 'more than others' in this period of lockdown.

Taking it to Twitter, fans addressed just how awkward all of this made them feel. "Not feeling this relationship at all. The thought of Shaun and Lea having the sex," tweeted a viewer along with a gif of the Big Shaq throwing up in a bucket. Another shared a clip of Debra Jo Rup splitting into loud laughter with the caption "#TheGoodDoctor I miss having sex with you. Never thought Shaun would be horny." Other fans chanted in unison how "no one wants zoom sex between shaun and lea please stop." One more said, "WE DON’T CARE ABOUT SHAUN’S SEX LIFE." Another said, "Please. PLEASE. DONT MAKE US SIT THROUGH SHAWN/LEA PHONE SEX."

To sum up, the fandom's reaction, Lea teaching Shaun about phone sex, with Shaun wiggling his little toes in excitement, and all of it ending in frustration was something fans are "going to pretend like the phone sex scene never happened".
