Netflix's 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' final trailer reveals that the prequel will do justice to Jim Henson's original classic

The Crystal of Truth, the source of untold power at the heart of Thra, is damaged and slowly deteriorating after being corrupted by the evil Skeksis.

Two months ago, Netflix gave us a delightful sneak peek into the marvelous world of 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance'. The teaser introduced us to the dark forces aiming to corrupt everything we know of in the world of Thra.

The Skeksis have corrupted the source of life – The Crystal of Truth – putting the world at risk of darkening. After discovering that everything that the Skeksis ever said was a lie, three Gelfling heroes Rian, Brea and Deet – voiced by Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nathalie Emmanuel – set out on an epic journey to save the world. How? By starting a rebellion.

A prequel to the 1982 Jim Henson movie 'The Dark Crystal', Netflix's 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' will tell the story that led to the events of the original film.

The Crystal of Truth, the source of untold power at the heart of Thra, is damaged and slowly deteriorating after being corrupted by the evil Skeksis.. The three Gelflings must now battle against time and hope to stop the darkening of the world before any irrevocable changes are made.

Going by the latest final trailer, it looks like Netflix has poured in some serious money into the series. The production value for the fantasy adventure series is top-notch and, dare we say, a tad bit more frightening than its 1982 predecessor.

Fans of the '80s cult classic couldn't be more excited about the upcoming series. The trailer is already receiving acclaim for its apt treatment of Jim Henson's original classic. "Thanks for doing Jim Henson right Netflix, I really wish he was around to see this," said one fan. Others are already investing their faith in the series. "I hope if this is a success, Netflix and the Jim Henson company can make more movies and tv shows like this," said another.

'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' is a star-studded affair – one of the contributing factors that has us eagerly waiting for the premiere date. Featuring Egerton, Emmanuel and Taylor-Joy as the Gelflings, the cast also stars Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, and Donna Kimball.

The cast was later expanded to include Sigourney Weaver (of 'Alien' fame) who is set to voice the role of The Myth-Speaker, 'Game of Thrones' Lena Headey will be lending her voice to Maudra Fara, Benedict Wong from 'Doctor Strange' will be playing The General, The Collector will be voiced by Awkwafina from 'Crazy Rich Asians', Naia's character will be voiced by Hannah John-Kamen 'Ant-Man and the Wasp', and the Muppets veteran puppeteer Dave Goelz is Baffi.

You can watch the trailer below. Netflix's 21st Century makeover to the '80s cult classic will premiere on the streaming service on August 30, 2019. As with Netflix originals, all episodes will be released in one go.
