Joining a new job is hard. Especially in the wake of social distancing protocols and a raging pandemic going around, getting along with your coworkers on the first day - or even through the first week of a new job can be difficult, but to have them downright blacklist you as someone they don't want to socialize with is something else. Such is the woe of Darlene Connor (Sarah Gilbert) as she is among the 200 people hied at one go by the same company where her mother, Roseanne (Barr), and aunt, Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) used to work too back in the day. But despite their legacy, why is Darlene being so actively disliked? Turns out, their problem is with Darlene's behaviour.

According to the official synopsis provided by ABC, Season 3's Episode 3 titled 'Plastics, Trash Talk & Darlene Antoinette' sees the titular character take some calls about socializing in the current climate. Perhaps it is with best interests at mind and heart but "Darlene isolates herself from her co-workers at Wellman Plastics, leaving them with the impression she is an elitist snob," reveals the official synopsis provided by the network.

Darlene's behavior makes sense; given the pandemic and the rate at which people were literally dying all over the planet, enforcing social distancing norms is the least one can do. Practicing them in their daily lives even when there's no policing going around goes a long way, but Darlene's coworkers seem to take it the other way. When Darlene tries to isolate herself, hey end up thinking she is one of "those" people - something that doesn't quite come as a surprise because there are actual anti-mask rallies happening around the country in real life, with the POTUS rebutting the CDC recommendations of wearing masks vehemently until he tested positive for the virus.

Given its natural arc this season, with its focus on the pandemic and the middle-class American family's lives changing under the name, 'The Conners' highlights the narrative of getting shunned for taking precautions in the Covid-19 era. Anybody with a sense of responsibility can be subjected to that and Darlene is no exception. Elsewhere on the show, ABC also teases that "Louise decides to teach Harris an expensive life lesson" while "Jackie is determined to keep the restaurant running," s that tug of war on both ends should make for a fun watch!

'The Conners' Season 3 airs on Wednesdays at 9 pm only on ABC.
