'The Book of Boba Fett' Episode 2: A look at 8D8's past and its link to Jabba the Hutt
Contains spoilers for 'The Book of Boba Fett' Episode 2 'The Tribes of Tatooine'
While a major portion of 'The Book of Boba Fett' Episode 2 focused on the relationship between the Tusken Raiders and Boba (Temuera Morrison), there are also plenty of other characters who attract attention, and one of them is the droid in Jabba's palace, known as 8D8, the droid plays a key role as Boba's aide. It does come with quite the history.
For those unaware, the droid was a Roche smelter droid that was originally programmed to assist EV-9D9 at the droid torture chamber at Jabbas place (also shown in 'The Book of Boba Fett') for the first time. Following the death of Jabba at the hands of Leia Organa, 8D8 was deactivated. Theories say that the droid was not particularly fond of Jabba and EV-9D9. It seems that Boba had the droid reactivated after he took over the palace with master assassin Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen).

The droids are a key part of the 'Star Wars' lore and 'The Mandalorian' ensured that the droids were brought back as an integral character. IG-11 was one of the important players in the spin-off and it appears it's 8D8's turn Jon Favreau's latest outing. Matt Berry plays the droid in the Boba Fett series and Twitter was equally excited to see the show bringing back some epic characters.
Right after the droid's appearance in the first episode as a knowledgable being, fans wanted more. "Promise 8D8 in every episode and I will watch ten dozen seasons of The Book of Boba Fett," one of the tweets read. "he Book of Boba Fett rules. I’ve been waiting for this show since 1980. Also, good to see 8D8 still kicking it," another fan opined.

8D8 will surely play a key part in the series going forward and that is a no-brainer. It explained that the assassins who attacked Shand and Boba were from Order of The Night Wind, something the duo wouldn't have known otherwise. It also remains to be seen how much it would know about the Hutt Twins who made an appearance in Episode 2.
'The Book of Boba Fett' airs Wednesdays on Disney+.
