Spoiler alert for 'The Bold Type' Season 4 Episode 8 titled 'Stardust'

How does love happen? What plays a bigger role in the union of two people? Is it the Gods or fate? Two people, no matter how different or how far apart, are brought together in the unlikeliest of situations. Are our lives predetermined by a higher power? Or is it out of free will that people make a conscious decision of keeping up with their partners and staying together. Are we the masters of our own destinies for having our lives turn out the way they do? What determines the course of a romance? Fate or free will? One's destiny or one's choices?

Episode 8 of Freeform's 'The Bold Type' titled 'Stardust' asks this very question. What brings people together, and more importantly, what keeps them together?

Alex Crawford (Matt Ward) is investigating the subject after falling head over heels for Dr Alicia Golden (Yasha Jackson) in 'To Peg or Not to Peg'. An intelligent, successful, go-getter, Alicia did not hold back and confidently strolled through the date. Alex found himself dumbfounded to the extent that he was intimidated by her. In the very same breath, intimidated by her, he tells her that he is not ready for someone as headstrong as her. This personal situation brings him to explore the subject of love.

Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens) is excited for her brother Evan (Chord Overstreet) to make it into town. Jane not only adores her older brother but also considers him an inspiration. What she doesn't know yet is that Evan is separated from his wife after she cheated on him and that information is still pretty much under wraps — except Ryan Decker's (Dan Jeannotte) figuring it out.

Their dinner together saw some friction owing to Ryan's cheating scandal since Evan couldn't help but take it personally. When he does eventually tells Jane about the separation, he happens to plant a doubt in Jane's head. Why did Ryan not tell her before? How could he lie to her so easily?

Elsewhere, Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) has been having issues with her boss after last week's mess. With a difficult time at work, Richard Hunter (Sam Page) flies across the country to give her some much-needed support and also fix some plans for their wedding.

But they find themselves out of sync as they keep arguing, unable to finalize anything for their wedding. This has both of them feeling ruesome. The back and forth in their professional lives led to this friction and as they choose to make amends, they ultimately decide on a completely new plan for the wedding.

Alex's original query about love being a product of fate or free will is still lingering till the end of the episode, where it is possibly best answered by Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin).

After receiving some advice to remain wary in love, Jacqueline is cautious on her first date. Even though fate brought them together after decades, her decision to give way and not be inhibited by what the stars could potentially mean were what really got them together.

'The Bold Type' airs on Freeform on Thursdays at 9/8c.
