Spoiler alert for 'The Bold Type' Season 4 Episode 7 'The Space Between'

We love a good 'The Bold Type' episode. Kat Edison (Aisha Dee), Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens) and Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) together are in all likelihood Freeform's best offering at the moment.

Their onscreen rapport is refreshing and genuine, and the weekly dose only leaves us wanting more. However, the latest episode of Season 4 titled 'The Space Between' is not the best the series had to offer.

Adena El Amin (Nikohl Boosheri) returns to the series after a long break. And while fans got what they were hoping for ever since the Season 4 premiere, the product is not all that great.

Adena brings along with her baggage from their past together — baggage that Kat had no need for. Their meeting is awkward, a reminder of the unsaid and unforgotten things between them. Since they must work together now, they set some ground rules to avoid issues. But what are ground rules if not meant to be defied?

A little oversharing about Kat's personal life has her at the receiving end of some pretty ridiculous and unnecessary cold-shouldering at the hands of Adena, who also uninvites Kat from a lesbian party later that evening.

Kat spends the entire time feeling guilty about being present there only to realize that no one else has a problem with her bisexual presence (as Adena had made it seem to be). This also leaves the two at crossroads — going forward, they are to remain strictly professional.

Elsewhere, Jane's Forbes' 30-Under-30 interview has her feeling nervous. After finding out that the lump she had found is not cancerous, Jane is a little relieved.

However, contemplating her life in relation to her interview, she comes to a huge conclusion about her health, her BRCA-1 status — she will be going ahead with the double mastectomy to ensure that she doesn't have to live under constant fear.

At the Scarlet office, Sutton finds herself a new styling gig for Alice, a successful beauty influencer (an appearance by Raven-Symoné). Excited at the opportunity, Sutton swears to do good, but somehow a difficult Alice has her getting chastised in the middle of Oliver Grayson's (Stephen Conrad Moore) office.

Even with the return of an old, fan-favorite character and a guest appearance by a much-beloved Raven, Episode 7 of 'The Bold Type' lags compared to the rest of the season. Maybe we were wrong; perhaps we don't want to see more of Adena and Kat.

'The Bold Type' airs on Thursday at 9pm/8c on Freeform.
