LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Acolyte' Episode 1 premiered on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, on Disney+. Within the first few moments, viewers were treated to a shocking twist as one of their beloved characters died just seven minutes into the show.

Carrie-Anne Moss who plays the character of Master Indara was all over the promotions in the days leading up to the premiere and fans were surely expecting her to have a meaty role in the 'Star Wars' series.

But the first act of the series featured Mae (Amandla Stenberg) killing Master Indara at the end of an exciting action sequence. This classic technique employed by Leslye Headland, the creator of the series, served as a reminder to viewers that they should anticipate the unexpected from this series.

The scene where Indira dies evoked a sense of déjà vu for fans, reminiscent of another incident where a heavily promoted actor met their end within the first moments of a film.

Similarities to Drew Barrymore's role in 'Scream'

Similar to Carrie-Anne Moss in 'The Acolyte', Drew Barrymore was all over the promotions for 'Scream' when the film was released in 1996. Fans who eagerly flocked to the theaters to catch a glimpse of their favorite star in 'Scream' were in for a surprise.

Casey, the character played by Drew, dies within 15 minutes of the film's beginning, setting the tone for a story about a vengeful serial killer who kills after asking people questions on a phone call.

Fans who tuned into 'The Acolyte' to catch a glimpse of Carrie-Anne Moss were similarly disappointed when Mae kills Master Indara in the first 7 minutes of the show.

A big relief for the fans of Carrie-Anne Moss came in Episode 3 of the series when Master Indara returned in a flashback sequence of the series as one of the Jedi members who goes to the Witches coven to test Mae and Osha.

The character plays an important role in the series and may potentially reappear in future flashback sequences although Episode 3 might also be the end of Master Indara's role as we see the coven being burned down at the end of the episode.

Master Indara's role, while brief, remains significant within the series. Even if she does not make a return, fans will undoubtedly remember her for the impact she had on the narrative.
