'Supergirl' Season 5: Will Kara and Acrata team up in their fight against Lex Luthor and Leviathan?

Acrata would be a valuable addition to the team, which already has powerhouses in Nia and J'onn

It has been that sort of a season for 'Supergirl'. From fending off centuries-ago villains to battling technology, it has been a different installment, not to forget the ramifications the team is dealing with after 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'. One of the characters, whose complete storyline is yet to be fleshed out, is Andrea Rojas/Arcata (Julie Gonzalo).

The season premiere saw Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) selling off CatCo to Rojas, a sharp and shrewd businesswoman, who has plans to change the way the mediahouse works, much to the chagrin of the editorial team.

DC fans will also know Rojas as Acrata from the comics. Her character was created as part of the Planet DC annuals event. Her first appearance is in Superman Annual (vol.) 2 #12.  Arcata's powers come from an ancient Mayan symbol which represents the shadows in the night, which allows her to teleport whenever in shadow.

The comic portrayal is a far cry from the Acrata we see in the series. She appears alongside Mexican superheroes Iman and El Muerto in the #12 comic while trying to thwart a terror attack in Mexico City. They run into Clark Kent aka Superman. While she works the case separately, she eventually teams up with Superman to get the job done. She is also looked at as a vigilante like Batman and wears a full head cowl on a black outfit. Her shadow powers coupled with top-class hand-to-hand combat expertise makes her a deadly vigilante.

Acrata was previously Superman's ally in The CW's 'Smallville' where she was a Batman-like ally to the Man of Steel.

Compare this to the plot of the series. Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) is now working with Leviathan, while Andrea realizes her Obsidian tech is sabotaged. In 'Alex In Wonderland', the plot alternates between Alex's  (Chyler Leigh) time in VR while William Dey (Staz Nair) is investigating Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) for placing a lot of satellites into space. William approaches Kelly Olsen (Azie Tesfai) for help who also has her doubts about the diabolical villain.

The plot is simple: Alex is in VR living out her fantasy as Super Alex or should we say Supergirl. However, the failsafe glitch has been an issue that hasn't been taken care of and this makes coming out of the fake reality practically impossible. Over the course of the episode, we see Leviathan show up as it is revealed they are behind the whole glitch and Lena Luthor's (Katie McGrath) AI assistant, Eve Teschmacher (Andrea Brooks) has managed to infiltrate Obsidian as an employee.

While it is clear that Obsidian is now not in safe hands anymore, one popular fan theory is if Kara and Andrea would link up to put an end to Lex's schemes. With a handful of episodes left before the season comes to an end, this team-up definitely comes across as a possibility.

Not just do they have to take on Lex, but also the mysterious Leviathan and Lena who continues with her twisted project, Non-Necere. Acrata would be a valuable addition to the team which already has powerhouses in Nia (Nicole Maines) and J'onn (David Harewood)

What are your thoughts on Andrea and Kara's teaming up? The next episode of 'Supergirl' airs on May 3 at 9 pm on The CW.
