LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: What initially appeared to be just a missing person case has entered into a spiral of rape, murder, and secrets in Apple TV+'s latest mystery series 'Sugar'.

The drama escalates as John Sugar (Colin Farrell), the private detective comes across two murder cases while investigating Olivia Siegel's (Sydney Chandler) disappearance and tries to establish a link between the three.

In 'Sugar' Episode 1, John uncovered a dead body in the trunk of Olivia's car and viewers were left hanging on the cliffhanger about the dead man's identity and his relation to Olivia. Fortunately, we get a little clarity in the second episode while the enigma behind his murder continues.

In Episode 2, John Sugar identifies the dead man as Clifford Carter, a seasoned criminal, previously charged with assault, rape, and human trafficking.

The investigation through GPS in Olivia's car leads him to the address of a woman named Carmen Vasquez, who was reportedly raped and killed a few weeks ago. It is established that Carter killed that woman before he himself ended up dead in Olivia's car.

John gathers that Olivia made repeated trips to Carmen's house a week before she went missing, including the night Carmen was killed.

Though Olivia's connection to Carmen hasn't been disclosed yet, we can speculate that she probably witnessed her murder, and when Carter chased her, she ended up killing him and put his body in her car with the intention to dispose it far away. Failing to do so, she might have escaped with no trace.

John Sugar finds Carter's body in Olivia's car in 'Sugar' Episode 1. However, he doesn't report it to the authorities and continues his investigation to identify the man and his connection with Olivia.

When Ruby (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) insists to report the body, he goes back again and finds the body disappeared.

Though at this point, it isn't revealed who dealt with Carter's body, one may assume that it is an act of Olivia's grandfather Jonathan Siegel (James Cromwell).

Earlier in the episode, John tells Jonathan about Carter's dead body in Olivia's car.

Concerned about Olivia's potential role in the murder or her becoming the scapegoat of the formal investigation, Jonathan may have handled the matter in his own discreet manner.

Meanwhile, John has picked up a few hair strands from the trunk to probably run a DNA test and investigate who killed Clifford Carter.

Two episodes of 'Sugar' are available to stream on Apple TV+
