'Stumptown' Episode 10 promises an awkward love triangle and an undercover mission for Grey as Dex-Miles romance progresses

'Stumptown' has gone on a holiday break and will return only in January 2020, leaving fans frustrated and impatient for the mid-season premiere of the ABC show.

The show had gone on the fall break with one major cliffhanger: the relationship between Dex (Cobie Smulders), Grey (Jake Johnson) and Miles (Michael Ealy).

As we saw in the Season 1 fall finale, Dex was falsely accused of sleeping with Grey’s girlfriend Liz (Monica Barbaro) and had to prove to her best friend that she did not actually do this. Even though Liz admitted to Grey by the end of the episode that she had orchestrated the whole situation to trick Grey into believing Dex is not to be trusted, and even apologized for taking this desperate measure, she left him with some sound advice.

Liz pointed out to Grey that she was forced to do what she did because of his close friendship with Dex and how that made it impossible for them to actually be a couple.

In fact, she pointed out to him that no woman could ever really be with him as long as his friendship with Dex continues. Obviously, Grey was not in a forgiving mood, but he did take her statement into consideration as is evidenced by the closing scene of Season 1A where we see him parked near Dex's home.

However, he did not go in or admit his feelings to her, which is presumably what he was there for, because he saw that Miles had beat him to it. Miles had been advised by his colleague and friend to be open with Dex if he wanted the relationship to work and that is seemingly exactly what he did. And, based on how the season ended, it seems like things are going to be rosy for Dex and Miles - at least for a while, and we will get to see an awkward love triangle when the show returns.

The trailer for the upcoming second half of Season 1 will also see Grey and Miles making amends and even working together. We see the police officer asking Grey to go undercover for a case, which is not going to be all that difficult considering Grey used to be a criminal back in the day. Will this project together make them friends? We will need to wait to find out, but thankfully, the wait is not all that long.

'Stumptown' returns with Season 1 Episode 10 on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.
