‘Spiderhead’ revolves around two jail inmates in a modern avant-garde prison that’s run by a brilliant visionary Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth) who is always seen experimenting on his subjects with mind-altering drugs that produce a wide range of emotional responses like being happy, sad, laughter and agony as well.

The highly awaited dark thriller film ‘Spiderhead’ is releasing globally on streaming giant ‘Netflix’ by June 17, 2022, at 3.01 am EST.

What is ‘Spiderhead’ all about?

‘Spiderhead’ is an eerie psychological thriller with a touch of comedy set in a dystopian world that narrates the story of two inmates inside the brilliant visionary’s modernized prison wherein his experiments on two subjects namely Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett) gets twisted as Abnesti’s experiments start pushing the limits and set boundaries of free will altogether.

The official synopsis reads, “In a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by brilliant visionary Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth), inmates wear a surgically attached device that administers dosages of mind-altering drugs in exchange for commuted sentences. There are no bars, no cells, or orange jumpsuits. In Spiderhead, incarcerated volunteers are free to be themselves. Until they’re not. At times, they’re a better version. Need to lighten up? There’s a drug for that. At a loss for words? There’s a drug for that, too”.

“But when two subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), form a connection, their path to redemption takes a twistier turn, as Abnesti’s experiments start to push the limits of free will altogether".

Creators

The film is based on the New Yorker short story titled ‘Escape from Spiderhead’ which was originally written by George Saunders. ‘Deadpool’ franchise writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have written the script for the film and Joseph Kosinski has directed the film.
