AMC's 'Soulmates' is a glaring reminder of what happens when we hand over love to science. With a concept fresh out of a 'Black Mirror' nightmare, the six-episode anthology focuses on a new couple each week, married or otherwise, struggling to fit into a world where the idea of finding your clinically designated soulmate via a medical test is a reality. In Episode 3, we enter the world of Adam (Shamier Anderson) and Libby (Laia Costa) and their eponymous 'Little Adventures' within their perfect partnership; but there's a catch of course. Not everything that looks perfect is perfect, and neither is the idea of a scientifically found 'soulmate'.

The official synopsis provided by AMC states: "Adam and Libby’s happy but unconventional marriage is disrupted when Libby’s test results come through; when gorgeous, fun-loving Miranda arrives in their lives, Libby struggles to draw lines between her feelings for her husband and her soul mate.” The 'unconventional' bit about Adam and Libby's marriage is expectedly their open status as the promo teaser shows Libby talking to her coworker about having 'cracked monogamy'. Things however get tumultuous once Libby's soulmate test shows a woman, and eager at the idea of inviting a third person to their relationship as Adam might be, Libby can be seen doing a lot of convincing to get him to meet her.

Perhaps it's the way Libby and her soulmate Miranda (Georgina Campbell) hit it off or the fact that Miranda is her scientifically tested soulmate, but the insecurities on Adam's part start becoming more and more blatant throughout the trailer. This is until the question becomes whether it is his jealousy that will crumble their marriage or Libby's full-blown make-out session with Miranda.

In the teaser, Adam can be heard saying it's not alright to expect one person to be your everything but looks like Libby's compartmentalizing is becoming more of an issue than their unconventional marriage was prepared for. In the end, Libby's voice practically squeaks that there must be a way to make this work so one can expect a happy ending, but knowing sci-fi thrillers and their tropes, what chance has romance got, right?

'Soulmates' airs on Mondays at 10 pm only on AMC.
