'So Freakin Cheap' is the newest addition to TLC's programming of family-focused reality television shows. If you are someone who loved 'Extreme Cheapskates' on the network, you're in for some luck. While the premise of TLC's latest offering might not be the exact same, 'So Freakin Cheap' promises a lot of penny pinchers who try to live as frugally as possible, and live with an aim to find opportunities to save the buck wherever and whenever.
Big events in their lives are no exception including weddings. The show will feature four families, fret not - these are not the kind you've seen on 'Seeking Sister Wife', 'Extreme Sisters', or 'sMothered'. 'So Freakin' Cheap' Season 1 will premiere on Monday, June 28, 2021, at 10 pm ET. For viewers who wish to tune in to the show without access to a cable subscription - Philo, fuboTV, Sling TV, Hulu with Live TV, AT&T TV, and YouTube TV seem to be the best options available. Plot
The families on 'So Freakin Cheap' is about to have audiences rolling with laughter with their quirky and comical methods to save money. However, the same is not the case for friends and family of these bargain hunters. "Tensions rise and emotions are high when each family is forced to confront their loved ones in the hopes of living a more normal life as they approach major milestones, including planning a wedding, renovating a home, buying a new car, and laying down the path for a career in fashion," states the official press release from TLC.
Cast
The Tran Family
Rosanna and Danny Tran live in Orlando, Florida with their four children, 28-year-old Alex, 26-year-old Elizabeth, 19-year-old Brandon, and 13-year-old Charisma. They look like they live luxuriously but they still find a way to live like the self-proclaimed 'Crazy Cheap Asians'. The press release states, "The women of the family have made a tradition of participating in pageants and finding a way to do them on the cheap, but there is trouble brewing in the Tran home when youngest daughter Charisma wants to strike out on her own as a fashion model, instead of being a fashionably frugal pageant queen like her mother and older sister."
The Watson Family
Shelley and her husband Tracy Watson along with their 27-year-old daughter Ashley and 23-year-old daughter Brittney live in Mesa, Arizona. The couple who first appeared on 'Extreme Cheapskates' has worked very hard to instill the values of frugality in their children. The older one, Ashley, has always been on board with living the cheap life, Brittney does not believe in cutting corners. Eight years ago, Ashley and Colby married in a ceremony that cost $1,000 dollars and tempers flare when Shelley drops a bombshell on Brittney telling her that she has plans of planning her wedding with Shane on a $750 budget. This covers everything from the cost of the venue, the wedding gown, reception, food to entertainment.
The Guiles Family
Becky and Jay Guiles are raising their two young sons, seven-year-old George and four-year-old Colden, in Minoa, New York. The couple with their sons live in a family with almost no furniture or real appliances. Becky quit her job after giving birth to her eldest and strives hard to be 'The Most Frugal Mom in America' by using tricks like washing dishes in the river, handing old wire hangers from the basement pipes to heat their home, and telling her sons their birthday is on the same day to avoid splurging on two parties. Jay on the other hand is not in with Becky's ways and never-ending DIY projects which have put a strain on their marriage and potentially put their lives at risk.
The Clayton Family
Tony and Angela Clayton live with their 17-year-old daughter Cierra in Stonecrest, Georgia. Tony believes in living frugally. He goes as far as making a home-cleaning solution using his own urine. But Angela who is the sole breadwinner of the family wants to spend on nice things, like a new car. The couple's relationship becomes strained after Tony disapproves of buying a car and puts his wife and daughter on a coin allowance because he believes their spending has gone out of control as per his standards.
