After a long wait of five months, ‘The Walking Dead’ finally made an emphatic return to AMC with a new episode and made everyone excited for the finale. The 16th episode of Season 11 aired on April 20, 2022, and saw Lance and his troopers taking control of Alexandria, Hilltop, and Oceanside. On the other hand, Daryl (Norman Reedus), Maggie, Aaron, and others came together to prepare for the war against the Commonwealth.

As soon as the show took a break, AMC gave a surprise to everyone by announcing that a spin-off series, titled ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’, focusing on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) will be premiering exclusively on the network. On the other hand, another spin-off series on Daryl has also been announced. A lot of fans were really unhappy with the timing of the announcements and said that AMC has ruined the ending of the show. They felt that the makers should have waited for Season 11 to get over and announce the new ‘Walking Dead’ titles.

However, ‘The Walking Dead’ showrunner has now come forward in addressing how the makers will be handling the ending and how viewers will be surprised with the conclusion because it has all been “changed”. Yes, you heard it right. In a recent interview, showrunner Angela Kang revealed that the final scene of the show has been “changed” and their initially shot final scene is “not” the final scene anymore.

While speaking with Radio Times, Kang noted that the scene is still in the “early process” and changed in the post-production process. She said, “I will say without spoiling that our intended final scene is not the final scene anymore. I won't go into that now, so early in the process, but sometimes, even after you've shot things, it changes in the post-production process. It's a living work, as we go. It's... I don't even know if I should say that much! Let's just say that things changed.”

The showrunner’s revelation might change things for a lot of characters, except Negan, Maggie, and Daryl. But it’s highly possible that the final scene might see all the aforementioned characters embarking on a different journey, leading them to their respective spin-off shows.

The official synopsis of Season 11's last few episodes reads, "In the upcoming final episodes of The Walking Dead, threats lurk around every corner, dead and alive, as each group continues to get caught in uncontrollable situations. The looming pressure is cresting towards a day of reckoning for all. Will the sum of their individual journeys cumulate into one, or divide them forever."

‘The Walking Dead’ Season 11 returns to AMC with new episodes every Sunday, at 9 pm EST.
