'5HINee Forever': SHINee members and fans remember Jonghyun on their 14th debut anniversary

Fans trend hashtags related to member Jonghyun as SHINee and Shawols celebrate their 14th anniversary since debut

It is hard for K-pop groups to stay together and in an age where many disband after the end of their seven-year contracts, SM Entertainment's SHINee has made it to fourteen years together as a boy group. After the trauma of losing Jonghyun in 2017, the remaining four SHINee boys have been unbreakable to this day.

Be it military enlistments or solo acting and singing activities, the members of SHINee are still strong with the support of Shawols (fans of SHINee) and their fourteenth-anniversary celebration gives fans a clear reason why. The boy group made its debut on May 25, 2008, as five members with Onew as the leader and vocalist, Minho and Key as the rappers, and Jonghyun and Taemin as the vocalists while Taemin, the youngest, was also the main dancer.

SHINee members celebrate their 14th debut anniversary

The SHINee members tasted success with chart-topping releases like ‘Lucifer’, ‘Replay’, ‘Ring Ding Dong’, and many more to eventually become one of the biggest boy groups in K-pop. Members and fans believe that the group is made of five members and that they will always remain five as they take every opportunity they get to remember Jonghyun and celebrate his life. On the day of their 14th anniversary, Onew posted a photo of SHINee members and captioned it “Happy New Year's Day" meaning that it was a new year for the members going forward. Minho also made a throwback post with a black and white photo of the members and captioned it, “Our 14th Anniversary.”

Key posted a selfie of the boys from the past as he captioned the post with, “Happy 14th Anniversary. I always care (for) you.” Meanwhile, maknae Taemin, who is currently enlisted in the military, posted a carousel post with two very old photos of the five SHINee members with the caption, “Always be with you,” which got fans extremely emotional. With Taemin away to complete his mandatory military enlistment, the remaining SHINee members, namely, Onew, Key, and Minho, will meet fans via a special live stream party.

The fan part titled, ‘SHINee Debut 14th Anniversary Online Party: SHINee Day’ will be streamed through SHINee’s official YouTube channel on May 25 at 10:30 pm KST (9:30 am ET) to commemorate the 14th anniversary of their debut.

‘SHINee Forever Five’

Fans had been congratulating members on their anniversary with posts remembering Jonghyun on this monumental day for the group. One fan quoted the late Jonghyun as they said, “If you say just four members, then it's not SHINee.” Another fan remembered Jonghyun’s words from an old press conference as he said, “All five of us have the same heart to protect SHINee. Even after time passes, we hope to be active as SHINee, unless physical reasons stop us.”

One fan said, “Happy 14th anniversary to our beloved SHINee, and happy debut anniversary to Jonghyun! Thank you for all the music, laughter, love, and memories you’ve given us. Let’s continue to be together always! 5HINee Forever.” Another said, “SHINee FOREVER FIVE.” One emotional fan wrote, “I will always be with you too. Happy 14th anniversary. Thank you #SHINee for 14 years of great music.”
