After a daunting cliffhanger in Episode 9, 'Riverdale' fans are in for a treat as The CW releases photos for the upcoming Season 4 midseason premiere.

Season 4 Episode 10 'Varsity Blues' is set to release on January 22 with The Bulldogs from Riverdale High preparing to take on their rival, Stonewall Prep, in a championship football game. As we know so far, Jughead is still at Stonewall Prep, having solved the mystery behind the Baxter brother's first novel and was recently inducted into the Quill and Skull society. Meanwhile, we are also introduced to a new character when Archie gets a visit from Uncle Frank, his late father Fred's brother.

In the midst of the sports competition, The CW has said that each of the characters is going to deal with their personal lives.

We agree because we are still trying to find out if Dark Betty killed Jughead? The focus of the episode is said to be around the fact that the Archie gang is now in their senior year of high school.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, showrunner, had already spoken about this saying, "Next season is the kids' senior year. It's their last year in high school, and we really want to locate their stories in the high school world. We started talking about what the big mystery could be, and we said it would be great if we kind of kept it in the high school kind of world. The other thing that we wanted to do is, this year Archie and Veronica weren't that involved in the Gargoyle King mystery — it was more Betty and Jughead. We loved the core four together in the finale. We wanted to do something that tied them all together for the core mystery and for a big secret."

The official synopsis of the episode states: "SPIRIT WEEK — As Riverdale High prepares for the championship football game against Stonewall Prep, Betty (Lili Reinhart) gets to work on a story about the rivalry between the schools. Archie (KJ Apa) is conflicted when Mary (guest star Molly Ringwald) tells him about Uncle Frank’s (guest star Ryan Robbins) troubled past. Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) goes head to head with Ms Appleyard (guest star Emily Tennant), the school's new cheerleading coach and Veronica (Camila Mendes) hits a roadblock with her latest Luna Rum recipe. Finally, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) is forced to pick a side after the perks of attending Stonewall Prep begins to interfere with his personal life."

Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
